most underrated players

i would say players like Brandon Shuff, Louis Ulrich, Larry Nevel, Sylver Ochoa, and lots of others that im too lazy to type.

well if u like shuff then u have to include the guys hes been banging around with the last few years

matt clatterbuck, shaun wilki, josh brothers, scott tollefson ,

The most underrated players are the players who take any games that come their way, and find a way to come out on top. Whoever they might be. They may not have the "prettiest" stroke, or play a "perfect" game, but they find a way to get the job done. Those are the guys you underestimate, and take all your money. Those are the most underrated players.

Tap, tap... :)

Well spoken :)

See that cleary, now your career as a hustler is over. Sorry bud! It was best for the world to know though.

Nah I'm good. Everyone still knows I don't know which end of the cue to use. I'm just on permanent stall though. Setting everyone up good. The day before I die, I'll show my real speed and rob the world. Get the cash and make it rain.

The really underrated ones are the guys that can put a 5,6,or 7 pack on you, and you never heard of them. And, there's still a good number of them out there. Probably more today than ever before.
Neil, those players would be better described as unknown. Underrated sounds to me like they have a name in the pool world, but that their game is a lot better than their "rating" suggests.

I agree with Eric that some of the Asian players who would be considered barely known, at least in the West, probably deserve much more recognition.

Interesting choices, but, I think if you take a good look at George SanSouci's accomplishments (pretty impressive considering his age at the time) you might reconsider. Before his neck problems arose, I don't think there were to many people in any rush to tangle with him.

Also, Dennis Hatch having been on an unplanned hiatus may have been the only thing that derailed his career, although, he tears it up pretty well on the Joss Tour, which is by no means an easy trip to the winners circle, he's been a tough draw in every tournament he's entered the past couple of years, not to mention his Mosconi Cup performance.

These two guys at very young ages were putting the fear in an awful lot of top players.

Just my thoughts!

I think that's exactly what mr441 meant by Ginky being underrated. He won 4 major events in less than 2 years (National 14.1 Championship, BCA 9 ball, Camel 10 ball tour, and the DCC 9 ball event) and yet still there wasn't a lot of hype about him at the time and now he's never even mentioned. To me, that's underrated.

i agree with you chris on that the internet and cell phones have done two things.they have really helped pool with getting and letting people get more involved with following pool but at the same time ur right chris its hard for a player go our and hustle and make money any more.cause if your lucky to make a score before you get to the nexted town someone has already dropped a dime on you before you leave the room.whatever happen with the number 1 rule in pool and gambling which is you dont knock someones action.there areso many talented players out there now days buy how many are really talented enough for the bar tables and the big table? not that many.most are either very good at one or the other.how many filopinos have you every really seen play for a big sum on the bar table?very very few if any.alot of the good bar tables players are and can be big under dogs on the big track.everyone knows its a big big difference and it seems everyone plays well on bar tables and run out regular.

here is another player that i dont think gets as much credit as he should for his play and that would be tommy sanders from texas. even though he doesnt play to much now days but for many years he had a open invitation for anyone to come to beaumont,tx to play.
i also want to add mard tadds name to the list also a very talented player that actually plays pool not because he likes it but becdause it helps with what he loses in poker.but ask around if some of you guys dont know him.he has a much natural talent as anyone. just go to utah if you dont believe me

I personally felt many players from the New England area were underrated. That's because many of us didn't venture out of New England in the 70's and 80's that often. We didn't have to, we had a great tour and plenty of competition. A great many of us also worked full time jobs, they do have them, and we also were busy raising families.

The likes of Nick Vlahos, Mike(we considered him to be from New england) Zuglan, Ray Mac, John Fernandez, Larry Loscotti, Larry( Boston Shorty) Johnson, Marty Herman, Bill Dunsmore, Beau McGarrett, Manny Hamel, Mike Nicoloro. Eddie Tenarro, and Mike X. Just to name a few.

Go down to the New England Pool and Billiard Hall of Fame in Snooker's Billiard Cafe in Providence RI. The wall doesn't lie. There are some great plyers up there.

I'm also up on the wall. Tom Mcgonagle. 2010 BCAPL Senior Eight-ball Champion. I finially got out of New England.

Hey Tom , does Nick Vlahos have a birth mark on his face? , if so he's the guy that came thru East Texas, and then on to Hot Springs,AR. during the horse racing season many, many years ago.

Hot Springs always draws many top players during that time, and he made short work of them all. I believe he had a nick name " Nick the Greek"

catpool9,

That was Nick. Unfortunately Nick passed away from a brain tumor several years ago. I personally felt at one point he had the best nine-ball game I had ever seen. He won every race he played in tournament play for over a year in our area. I knw because I was the only one to beat him in that time. He is dearly missed in the New England area.

Wow, I'm sorry to hear about Nick's passing, that man could certainly play play some 9-Ball for sure! When Nick came thru the area for about a 6 week span, he dusted off everyone he matched up with, big table, bar table, small ball or big ball, it didn't matter. I do remember him telling me he was from the New England way.

He beat the socks off Terry Bell and gave my brother Calvin the 8 playing 9-ball on the bar table with the big cue ball, not many people have ever won playing Calvin giving up weight, but Nick did, that's why he has really stuck in my mind all these years.

Matt Clatterbuck comes to Valley Forge every year and crushes the guys on the bar box. He has several gears and always seems to find one above the guy he is playing. With all the even up action I saw I would definitely think he is considered underrated.

Chris I thought the two of you were talking about matching up. What ever happened to that... come to Valley Forge - would be a great match.

MO players

Just curious I am a bad player from St. Louis with no opinion just a question, but seems like Andy Quinn wins every tourney here. Doesn't usually matter who comes to town. MO state 8,9, and 10 ball. Beat Jesse B and double dipped Brian Gross at Midwest 9 ball that he wins every year seems like. He took third at the tourney in cape while I was running it in Feb with several great players thereJoey G, Chip, Gary L, Roger G, Shane Mc, etc...(Chucky R won it also another guy winning everything he plays in and out of MO) .
Is he under rated? How does he play compared to some of these other guys? What about Chuck also?
