I'm considering buying a nice 8-foot Anniversary. If I go that route, I may just put two tables in the basement with a 10-footer being the other (not a snooker table).
I'd like to know what AZBers think of owning an 8-foot table ... is it generally considered a waste of time and space? Is there merit in having two tables?
I'm also considering two GC1s: a 10-foot snooker and 9-footer.
If I go with one table, I can't imagine it would be an 8-footer, although the Anniversary is one of my favorites......
If you had the space, what would you do with it?

I would try to find a 5x10 that isn't a t-rail for practice and a 7ft Diamond bar box for the fun factor.... AN 8 or 8over is just a waste of space to me...

The tight 5x10 would be for practice and skill honing and the barbox would be for trying to string a high number of packages... The 7ft diamond is kind of like playing pinball to me... Just lots of fun with not a ton of misses... I would never want to own one as my only table but it would be a joy to have when I was tired of the precision required on a the big stage....

I only have room for an 8' so that's what I have. For me it's fine
when I play league it's on 7' tables, in AZ it primarily 9' tables.
I feel comfortable on all sizes. I'm just happy to have a table.

8 footer

The league I play in uses 8 foot Diamonds so it would be OK for me. I do not like 7 footers so I wouldn't own one of them no matter what. The 10 footer is a good idea but do you want anyone to play with you on it and will they? Heck of a table if no one but you will touch it.

First, let me say that you, Karl, are the best table deal finding guy in the world. Some of your finds are simply amazing.

With that out of the way, as much as I like the Anniversary model, I would only settle for an 8 footer if I didn't have room for a 9.

I really love the idea of a 9 foot GC with either a 10 ft snooker or even a barbox. I could see many non-pool playing guests enjoying a barbox as opposed to being tortured on the bigger tables. ;)

However, if it's primarily just for your entertainment/practice, the 10' snooker and 9 ft GC has a beautiful sound to it.

Man I wish I had that kind of room...

But alas, I feel very blessed to have a table of any size to enjoy at home.

Best,
Brian kc

Get the 10 ft for sure.....and try to acquire 3 sets of rails.
..a Brunswick GC or Anniversary has pool, snooker or 3-cushion options.
and I think an 8 ft Anniversary is alright...it's big enough that when you
play on a 9 ft, you will not be intimidated

just glad to have a table

I have owned 8 and 9 footers over 10 or 12 years. I have my diy jon bilt
table that I play and practice on about ever day. I designed it and built it from scratch. It is a true 7 footer 42x84 from nose to nose. I like to build
and do projects as a hobby. I know it is not a diamond or gc and would never say or make myself believe that it is better. It does play and have a good roll. When I started drawing up the plans I priced slate and the price
for slate would have been more cost than what the table is worth. so I went, after a lot of research, with mdf board for playing surface. I have paid to play on tables not as good as the jon bilt. What makes it play true
and desirable to play and practice on is my design. I am thinking about
another build and do a profile on az with pictures of each stage of progress. I will try to downlaod some picts. take care, john
I could not upload pictures got message "uplaod of files failed"
what can I check to find out why can't load picts.

Since most competitions are played either on 7 footers or 9 footers, that would be my choice, as I had this setup a few yrs back. The 7 footer takes up nearly the same space as and 8 footer, but you'll gain six inches here and twelve inched there and that extra area could help with seating etc.

I have an oversize 8 ft. Steepleton 1963. Love it, yes it has buckets for pockets but that's OK for me. Makes me fell a little like Efren LOL. An if I so desire I can have 4 inch pockets installed anytime. But for now the table makes me fell good. An at my age that's a good thing.

I like 8's and a lot of the tournaments I played locally are 8's. I think it's the best size all around for just fun and friends and if you keep your eyes open you'll find some killer deals on them, I mean rediculous...

I guess that would be my advice for both tables, just keep looking at everything and soon enough some rediculous deals will come along you will feel you just have to buy. If you can resist and don't feel sure, don't buy.

Even though I like 8's I bought a gc1 9', it came up cheap, locally, and with free delivery and I had to have it. It's helped up my game and accuracy a lot already and I've barely started playing on it. But then again if you want a 10 also that would do it to up your accuracy, the other table could be anything.

I wouldn't only look at brunswicks though I'd watch them all... You never know what'll come up locally...

Thanks, guys. I am considering the 8 because all the bar tables here are 8s. There's no pool hall closeby, so that's what I am stuck with. I am leaning toward the Anniversary, but haven't made a decision.

I'm with Renfro on this one. If I had room for 2 I would go with the 9 footer (or 10 if possible) and a bar box. Let's face it, if you want to compete at all you pretty much have to play some on the bar tables. I would use the bar table just to warm up on the day before or even hours before heading out to a bar table tourney. Other than that I would play on the 9/10 footer. Anything in between those two (8 or pro 8) doesn't make much sense to me.
