My billiards-related collection

Good day,

Now that I have received the two last items I would like to share what I have gathered during the past couple of years. It isn't huge but I adore every piece in it with all of them having someone they are related to and all of them sharing a little bit different and more about this wonderful sport.

You may see on the pictures:
Blue Book 3rd Edition in miserable state (I've read it so much it's somewhat falling apart. It was signed by Ralf Souquet and some other really good European players),
The 2002 Inside Pool Mag which features a large photograph of Balabushka, Mottey and Szamboti cues - I must have spent a week at least with looking at these pictures. It is in the Mark Kulungian article.
Jay's Pool Wars book which is just brilliant - it was great meeting you Jay! This book has got to be a keeper for everyone, definitely.
Burton Spain's two booklets and several printed materials dating back to the 1984 October Billiard news.
Joel Hercek letter with embroidered letters (that's what you see on pics) and his business card, an interview with him
A picture of Burton Spain full splice cues (or very early Joel Hercek cues?)
David Paul Kersenbrock's book on cuemaking;
A yellow envelope full of other old envelope's and other tiny stuff, I keep everything that I can;
A pool-table Zippo which is very nice (although I don't smoke it's still great);
and the two latest acquisitons:
A vintage '70s solid brass belt buckle with a billiards/carom player on it, it's so nice and unique, I love it!
...and the very latest that I got: THE SNAP Magazine from May/June of 1991 with pictures from the Glenn collection and the absolutely amazing Gus Szamboti box cue on cover... I got this as a present from a very special AZer whom we all know! I must confess I have not asked whether I can share his name publicly but what is for sure: I am extremely thankful for him for this present.

I would like to wholeheartedly thank everyone's help in putting this collection together, they all know who they are and they can count on me anytime, I clearly remember everyone who helped me before so huge thanks to all of them.

I hope you all like this humble collection and I would love to see other stuff like this here...

Take care,
David

Very cool items and well done Pics David. :)

Thanks for sharing.
Hope you are well Bud.

Take care

PS: I will keep you posted about the "newcomers" in the near future :grin-square::wink:

Bryan,

I wish that I could treat it as good as it treats me!! :) It is one fantastic cue, I played once in two months with it, I just simply did not have any time to go out and relax, but two days ago I took it out again and it brought back that wide smile on my face... This is exactly what these things are for and it does just like that. The thing is that for family reasons I know that I will have to sell it sooner or later, naturally, I'd like to have it for as much as I can but I know that I'll need the funds to help my Mother out when the time comes.
Thank you for your kind words on the collection, I sure enjoy every piece in it!

Berny,

Thank you too, the pics came out Okay, but I had 0 sunlight, they were taken in the evening and I did not have any good lighting! Thanks though and I have also sent you a PM!

Take care my friends,
David

Now all you need are cues by Spain, Hercek, and Szamboti and your collection will be complete!

Hercek Photo

Hello,

Regarding the photo in the center of you paper collection, the one with three cues and the cue splice pieces. That cue happens to be my cue, it is serial # 003 called "Full Moon", made form Spain parts with the threaded pin in the shafts.

Great collection of paper information, her are pictures of my cue, enjoy.

hey

David, Now that is one cool collection you have going on there. Keep it up my friend.

Steve,

Thank you my friend - frankly, your contribution has been great to this by adding one of the most cherished items to it - which are: the Spain books, the Hercek letter and of course: THE SNAP. The DPK book is a close second behind these.

As Spliced put it, now all I need is a humble array of cues from these masters - wow, do I have a long way to go!! :)

BBC,

Thank you for those pictures, they are amazing and are saved on my PC for good if you don't mind!

I actually knew about the Full Moon design but have never seen this particular design. I have to say that your collection of Burton's cues is just fantastic and I like it even more because it represents Burton's work very-very nicely with the clean lines and massive splices!

May I ask what is the purpleheart cue in the middle? I see it has to say B. Spain in between the points but is it dated or is it an EOL? I know that there is an EOL in purpleheart that is #5 but it has different coloured rings in the butt sleeve... I am just curious about what else I see on the pictures but either ways, they are fantastic.
If you would like to see some other superb Spains I'd like to recommend you doing a search in tikkler's threads, he has a few that are exceptional as well.

Thank you for sharing and you too Steve,
I'm looking forward to hearing from you!
Best,
David

P.S.: I've gone through 11th and 12th grade in high school with taking that photograph with me to look at it on more boring lessons ;-)

Spain Cues

Hi,

Thank you for the kind words. Steve has a awsome collection of Spain cues, the six pointer is my favorite. As for the two other cues Spains, I bought from Joel when he made my "Full Moon" cue in 1994, they are mint and never been chalked.

The Purple Heart is 18/93 and the Ebony with the Maple Rectangles Windows is EOL 9.

Take Care,

BBC,

Thank you for the additional information! It has been a common belief that only 6 EOL's were ever made but as far as I know there were 9 or 10 at best (It's weird that I don't remember the exact number, I'll have to look into that!)

Actually, my favourite is the 6-pointer as well (yet it's a tough decision as it somewhat steps away from the basic and legendary "4-prong" full splices), I bumped it a few moons ago to make it surface again, in my opinion someone who generally likes cues has to see that cue in its entirety.

The ebony in your Full Moon cue is so dense it's like a black hole in the universe digesting all light coming into it - when you "hit" a cue with flash it shows the grains in the wood much more than with a standard process but even with the flashing being used it's so dense it remains perfectly black.
The stacked rings at the bottom of the cue, right above the butt cap are very Burton-ish as well, to me, it works a bit like a Hoppe ring in appearance with its sheer simplicity. I have seen some of Burton's more intricate cues and if I am honest I must say I didn't like all of them because scarcely he couldn't put his finger on the easier, more attractive patterns. I frankly believe that the Full Moon is one of his best designs along with Model-34 when it comes to intricate designs.

Okay, it's getting long and I really have to leave for the sake of economics but I feel I could go on and on and on :(

David,

I will round up a few things and send them to you, email me your address and when i get to Vegas I will set you up with some stuff.

Eric,

Thanks a lot for the offer!!! Wow, if I keep going this way I'll get out of the cue thing and spend all my money on picture frames!! :):) THANKS! By the way, I'll have something sent to you too, it's taking way too long but I'm nearly there. I'll email you soon!

Branko,

It's David Paul Kersenbrock's book about cuemaking. It's awesome.
