My buddy finally let go of his mint rarely used 1978 Viking... Cue is pristine..:). I'm not a big fan of Viking or any production cues but the early ones in great condition always peak my interest for some reason... I posted this a little while ago but now it's mine so I thought I'd share again

I dig the cue but I dig the case even more. Thanks for showing that thing off.

Cool looking Viking. I will note, that is the first pilot I've seen with threading on the I.D. AND on the O.D......interesting.

Getting a new cue never gets old. It is even cooler when you get one you have wanted for a while.

Interesting set you have there. You don't see the old Vikings in this nice condition. Congrats and I hope you put that cue and case to good use!

great looking cue! that is the first Superjoint I've seen in a long time! never did hit with one. how does it hit?

The old Viking super joint, and a purple theme. What more could you want? Nice cue.

All the best,
H

I wonder the same thing? I also wonder who you could get to make another shaft? Do they still make those parts? Or would you have to cannibalize a donor cue? It's a cool cue.

Like MONSTER of course. BEST playing cue I've ever owned..... Well ok, haha, I jest.. It hits ok. If I swapped out the ferrule to something like old yellow micarta or even ivory, and put a nice triangle on there Im sure it'd have a better feel...

I can't be positive, but I think you may have the old "Lucite" ferrule there at the moment. Popular with a bunch of cues back in that day. Still good to see an old cue.

All the best,
H

Im not sure what material it is. I'll probably leave it like it is though.. U n l e s s ... it happens to all of a sudden develop a crack or something..

Viking still does it.

Personally, I would have a new shaft made, leave the old one alone or just use it occasionally. But that's me.

Love the cue. The old production cues are just fun. Nostalgic. Quirky. :)

Enjoy it.

That's a cool old Viking. I have one that I've owned since 1976. Never play with it but it has a lot of sentimental value to me. It's a 4 pointer with two super joint shafts. After seeing yours I pulled mine out of the closet to check out for the first time in 20+ years.

Thanks for the memories.

Fantastic

Purple passion!

Great cue and case.

Now I have to pull my old one out and check on the joint also.

If memory serves mine is very similar but blue instead of purple. My case looks the same, it has two sleeves attached to the inside which separate about 6 inches to let you slide the pieces in easily. Was called a clam shell case I believe.

Its' always fun getting a new (new to you) cue

Enjoy

Dave

My old Viking

Here you go, Chopdoc. I'm not sure of the wood in the points and butt but it looks a lot like Brazilian Rosewood. The label in the window in the butt reads "Pixie by Viking". When getting out of college in 1976 my parents asked me what I wanted as a graduation gift and this was it. Guess you can tell how I spent my time while in school:)

It's been a closet queen the last 30+ years. Like I said earlier, it's not worth much but has a lot of sentimental value to me.
