My cooooopy hoppe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Stop it Leon. I want to order like 7 more cues fromy you when I come down to get my cue. Sick work once again.

Call it whatever you like...use whatever term that either endears or arouses you....labels are meaningless.

Just trust & rely upon your eyes......appreciate & behold another beautiful cue design from Leon Sly.

We will do business someday Leon....I just have to figure out how but meanwhile, thanks for the pics.

Just waiting for everyone to yell at you for design theft. Lmao

This is why this forum is no where near as popular as it once was. There really is no need to stir up controversy for no reason. You are referring to the "Black Boar" cue Leon made recently I assume? Seriously, this is a beautiful cue and no one in his right mind would accuse Leon of design theft here. The other cue, well it's easy to see why people were "yelling" design theft.

The point here is Leon is a very talented cue maker and honestly I can't imagine why he would build a cue that is almost an exact duplicate of someone else's work. He's better than that and can and has build very nice cues that were his unique design. He's been doing the scalloped buttcap that BB I known for for a while now and I think using one or two design traits that another cue maker is known for is somewhat acceptable. But what he did with that cue was outright theft.

For those of you that are not familiar with the laws that govern this sort of thing, let me shed some light on it.....

It is considered possible trademark infringement if the item or mark could easily be confused with the original from across the room. In other words, without close inspection could it be easily confused with the original. In the case of Leon's BB cue this is definitely the case. Anyone with any knowledge of custom cues would almost certainly think it was a BB by looking at it.

No, I am not an attorney but recently I had cause to do some research into the subject after a certain cue maker called me and suggested that the "S" on my Synergy cues could be confused with his "s". This specific cue maker also made a similar call to Leon when he was just using the "S" for "Sly" on his buttcap. In case any of you were wondering why Leon now uses his full last name on his cues that is the reason.

Monstermash, trust me, I am not even close to the reason this forum isn't as popular as it once was. The cliques that form in this forum are far worse than any I ever dealt with in high school. Leon makes amazing cues but where do you draw the line when you throw cue design theft around? Are we stealing from the first person who did a short splice, is the hoppe ring a trademark? Blackboar isn't the only maker using the scalloped buttcap, I believe Voteri ( spelling ) us3s the same if not very similar design. Blackboars and Voteri's look very similar, nobody is bashing them. Leon, make whatever you want.

Great looking cue. Make what you want, well almost.
Just don't make a tribute cue that looks like my Lucasi. I will find you.

There you go Bruce
An electronic store Lucasi Tribute cue

Tribute cues don't get any better than that

This is how a pool cue is supposed to look. Very nice. Congratulations to the new owner and to Leon for building it.

That's it

That is one of the best looking cues you have ever produced. While I appreciate your talents in your more intricate cues, my tastes lie in the pure and simple. I like it when the woods do the talking.

Very nice cue Leon. Actually I don't think you've copied anything. I don't recall the original Brunswick Hoppe's having the small black ring at the borders of the wrap at the buttsleeve and forearm. I'm not sure if you use ebony or phenolic here. But that's the little twist on your interpretation as I see it.

Anyway, very nice looking cue, nice choice of wood and veneers.

All the best,
WW

you should see whats next...tom, your telling me i can't use 8 floating points in a ebony front...and also i can't use a floret as a decoration at each position of my cue i got my floret from this site www.craftsmanspace.com it's not the same tony didn't send me his program it's free...and the crown cap i've seen it on a lot of different cue makers cues it's like a worn out hooker it's been used and abused...my theory is it's not a design theft...because it's not 100% identical...it might look similar but not so i will build ...ON!!!!
there are many design from this site that i seen on big cues but i'll keep it at that.
