My DCC trip

So I finally made it to the DCC. After planning and failing to attend for 3 years due to financial issues not of my doing I finally made it on the 4th year. For 2011 I saved vacation days to be paid out at Christmas and saved money a little each week starting in October to guarantee that I would make it.

I arrived on the 25th which was a rough drive. By the time I showed up I had been awake for over 24 hours, but not because of the drive. I work 630pm-630am so I was actually leaving at the time that I normally go to sleep. I checked in and got an hour and a half nap to go see the matches and action. I got to see Alex v Rodney in the Fatboy which was a great match. I poked my head in at the AZ room, but was really just poking my head in everywhere to see what was going on.

On Thursday I woke up after a solid 10 hour slumber. I headed out soon after waking up to get some grub at the Paula Dean buffet. The price is a little high for a buffet at $17, but the food was good for a buffet and I just want what gets the job done. I watched a bit of the tournament and decided to poke into the AZ room again. This time I felt like playing, but I was also half lit. I found Mr. Big Truck in there as well as Mr. KTownD and decided to get into a ring game. I wanted it to be a ring game/drinking game, but soon found myself plastered and having fun losing money. Once Russ and Little Joe came in to get in as well I was laughing, drinking, losing money and missing everything. I ended up losing about $80, but had fun doing it. I stumbled back to my room once I was started seeing double.

On Friday amazingly after the night before I slept for about 3 hours and woke up without an alarm. I figured screw it I will head down and hit some balls after the disgusting display I put on in that ring game. I immediately realized that I can make balls when I don't have a belly full of beer. I got to hit a few balls with Cornerman's three piece traveling cue and I have to admit it hits awesome. I was hoping to get a ring game started up again, but no luck. I had a great time talking to a few AZ members and finally decided to head in for a nap.

After an hour and a half I headed back out to see the fantastic 9 ball matches happening on every table. I will say it again that Alex Pagulayan is by far the most entertaining and most engaging player I have seen. You can't help but smile or laugh while being around him. I also finally found Mr. BHQ after numerous ppl said he was looking for me to see the absolutely beautiful butterfly cues he brought with him. Had to play along and act like I was buying the cue for 1/5th the value in front of someone who was dying to buy it. I also ate at Legends that night and considering how they added about 10oz to the 16oz prime rib I bought you could say I was a happy camper.

On Saturday I have nothing to report because I basically got up and got ready to leave. The only thing I did was say hi/goodbye to everyone I had met and stop by the Hustlin USA stand to buy a hat.

Overall I had a great time and plan on doing it next year. The food is not ridiculously overpriced like some have reported and it is decent food. The best advice I could give is to pack some drinks (liquor in particular) and maybe some snacks. I was eating once a day so food prices weren't an issue for me. The walk isn't miles long and isn't even long by normal standards. I can hit the tables in 2-3 minutes from my room so I wouldn't say that is a bad walk. The matches were absolutely awesome on Friday and everyone I met was great. Anyone that is thinking about going I highly advise to do so.

It is refreshing to read a review that is not negative. Long walks, lousy food, and high prices are just some of the things that I have read or heard of on the chats.

That is great that you had a good time and even greater that you gave us a glimpse of your week there..

The DCC is on my bucket list and who knows it could happen next year, thanks again for the review:thumbup:.

I enjoyed meeting and playing with you in the Az room. I was the
one with the black guy who had the Schon shipped to New Albany.
I was also the one who hadn't played on the big table but 3 times
prior to the DCC. I worked it out and then owned the big table!
Nice meeting you and hope to see you next year!;)

Good meeting you Gunz!

I thought I could keep up with you on the beers. Man was I wrong. I did get pretty loose on the 3 though! hehe.

The opinions on prices and food is subjective I suppose. In reality my opinion is that just the food is subjective considering the prices of things these days.

The walk is an absolute farce. There is a motorized sidewalk that carries you about half the distance and golf carts can take you if you can't muster the walk. I guess it would be a long walk if you are handicapped, hurt or drunk as hell. Outside of those excuses you have to be sedentary as hell to say that is a long walk. My grandmother walks more than that every day and she is 95.

I tried to get Little Joe in a ring game the next day with the stipulation that he had to drink a beer per/rack with me and he wouldn't bite. I actually didn't drink a beer all day looking for you to start up a sober ring game and couldn't find ya. I tried to get one going in the early afternoon while I was practicing and couldn't get any bites. Cya next year if ya make it.

Next year is a drinking ring game. One beer per/rack. If ya haven't finished it the rack isn't broke until it's empty and ya pay double if you pass out or throw up.

Hey, you and I have two hobbies in common! Getting plastered and having fun losing our money.

Nice review. One day I will go to DCC, one day...
