My feelings about TAR

I just made this post in a thread but it is tooo strong to get buried in a thread, its not a advertizment, they dont even know i'm posting this, but since I stirred up the shit here a couple weeks ago, I want to do positive things with the little notriority I have so here it goes, my first shot at using my reputation to spread the word,

first off also I was only stirring the pot saying I'm the new Sheriff, SVB is right now, and i'm damn proud to say that. I might be the biggest ball buster or something...

anyways here is my first shot using my little known name (hope I dont piss anyone off) i'm just trying to do good things for pool, i sound like a policatition, lol:

i will awalys support the TAR corp. They are my friends and stand up guys with people they dont even know. I believe in them, they have a ton of heart to do what they are doing, I try and contribute to their efforts. They need all the support we can give them directly and indirectly by telling other people about what they are doing, hopefully that will encourage more people to buy computers and get with the program instead of living in the past. I have the best laptop I have ever used and it cost me $550, its alot of $$$ just for pool but if us current internet pool guys can convience non internet pool players to get online then TAR will grow, they need that and since the SVB/Cory match I have been telling everyone I can about how cool it is to have a rail at home, some guys at the pool room just dont get it and look at me like i'm nuts, i wont say its their loss instead I try and explaine to them how cool it is. It is good for room owners too because it will stimulate people to play more when they can see top players on a regular basis.

If we all collectivly promote TAR to non internet people it will eventually feed on itself by bringing in new viewers, the TAR boys are smart and positioned real good and have a great public image, they know that...it hasnt come cheap, I wont put anymore of their business in the street, i'm not allowed to. But I will use this thread to promote them and more in the future. If I get labled as a "pitch man" for them i'd be damn proud of what i'm selling. I have no doubt they will be the top guys in the challenge match format for years to come.

I dont think getting pool players on the to the internet is the issue. this forum just hit the million post mark with 10's of thousands of members. And possibly 100's of thousand if not millions of lurkers.

The focus needs to be on the product/service and the promotion.. the market is there already.........

Actually as of today there are 14,777 registered members of AZ. Usually around 800-1200 visit each day I would wager their are probably only 300 who post with any regularity.

This the biggest pool site on earth.

IMO the answer is to get it in players faces where they play. Easy to say hard to do.

I agree the streaming medium has issues, especially for those not used to it and all of its quirks. All I know is that if we can get 1000 people on earth to buy in for $10 or $15 bucks we could do some really cool things.

Less than 10% of AZ's registered members.

I don't see that happening due to the current limitations of streaming...people watch free....just won't pay for something with so many weak links in the delivery chain. So you are back to sponsored events if you want to try and reach the most people.

For now we have to stick with the PPV model in order to survive....in the future we will see.

Maybe a small niche audience is all we want or need....we never had any grand plans to "save" pool or revolutionize anything...we just like the action.

I tell ya one thing.. if the IPT contiues to turn out product like the last event , then you guys are golden.. no way they hang. Chances are though that it was a one time issue that will fix before the next match.

does anybody have stats on how many folks watched the Duel/Busta match ?

But the fact that the IPT is the IPT and you guys are ..well you guys , shuold play into your favor.

In my mind we are not competing with the IPT or so far anyone else. To this date as far as I know we are the only ones doing REAL action matches. Everyone else has done exhibitions. That is a big distinction in my mind.

As Fatboy said in an earlier thread it is gravy to put up $15K and have 2 guys play....but to what end. It is then simply an exhibition which is fine but it is absolutely not the same thing as an action match to me.

The action part is what makes putting games together so hard, because of the fact someone IS going to lose money. The other side to that coin is that when one does go off it means something.

Imagine if every player on a MLB team had to wager a percentage of their salary on each game they played...(ok so Pete did that)...and that if they lose they get nothing (except for a piece of the gate and DVD money down the road :D). It would make it a little more interesting....lot less mailing it in.

To me the beauty of the action match is its purity....you perform and overcome, you win money and recognition....you come up short you get nothing (except for a piece of the gate and DVD money down the road :D)

I know that I'll be buying the DVD's of Van Boening vs Deuel and vs Pagulayan with my next batch of tournament winnings (hopefully that's soon!)

Streaming video is cool, such as what Matchroom did with the Mosconi Cup. But it's not always convenient. Some of these recent streams with IPT and TAR is when I've been out shooting pool. It would be nice if that streamed content was available to watch for the same fee, or slightly increased, over "x" amount of days. I paid for the streamed content of the US Open matches, but I had to use a stream-capturing program to make sure I caught what I paid for (and "no" I'm not copying those matches onto DVD's. The quality isn't good enough anyway). With the US Open, you could watch the matches after they had been played, but it was only for "x" amount of hours versus days.
 
TAR needs VOD badly. VOD = Video on Demand

This would increase their sales alot IMO. Also the ability to download what you pay for would get me to buy more matches.

You guys are TAR's biggest asset. When you sit down and talk about the wagers, the background, the story, when players like John Schmidt come and visit and comment, it makes the game far more interesting. For example, it stood out in my mind when one of you mentioned that Alex lost his backer against Shane for the third set, so he used whatever he had and borrowed the rest to play again. You could see and feel the pressure.

The fact that you and the guest commentators are talking from the heart and not with a professional script makes it sound like we are right there talking with friends.

In my opinion, TAR is already a success but in its infancy. The real assets are the people and the potential, and not just in pool. Keep your eyes and minds open for other venues. There is a whole world of special interests out there to venture into.

I recall a room owner posting in the TAR chat room during the DCC saying that he had the streaming up in his pool room and that he & the customers couldn't get enough of it. I was jealous of all of those customers because I know that I would love to have my local pool room participate in the TAR events.

I think Tate was reading my mind when he posted this, only he did some editing and stated it much better than I could have.

To date, outside of TAR, I have not been interested in anything anyone else out there has done in regards to streaming.

The majority of us love the action in pool and that is what they're giving us. No one else is giving us that and I'm thankful that these guys decided to go ahead with this. I'm proud to be a TAR "pitch man". Thanks guys!

I already tell a lot of people at the pool room about TAR and the matches that are going down. I would be happy to post up a flyer in my local room if anyone thinks that would help. If you think it's a good idea you should create a flyer and then just make it printable from a link here. I'll print it up in color, and post it up at the counter - I'm sure the owner will be happy to. You could post up new flyer for each upcoming match or just have one standard advertisement. Just a thought.

i was sleepy when i made that post, my spelling terrible and grammer the same, its funny i am very well spoken and smart, we all have out strenghts and weaknesses, and yes fot business i have secretarys that write for me, but late at home its just me and my girl and sometimes a "friend", the "friend nights" are my favorite.:eek: :cool: ;)
