i had the greatest time of my life at the king of the hill event. i got there early, and kevin gave me a private tour of the green room for the players which included a spread of food, internet access, extremly comfy chairs, and a private massus, pardon my spelling, this was when the players wanted to unwind in between matches. the set was as fine as fine can be, all high class, just like kevin himself. kevin has a way of standing out from the rest. his hollywood good looks and tall 6 foot plus frame, and shining quality suit, make him electric, and when he speaks the room gets excited! his crew members john denny and company were top notch straight off the emmy's and there was no camera angle that was cruddy. from the word go the king of the hill ipt tournament had an aire about it that made it the biggest, highest in it's class, and for those of you who have doubts about kevin's character, he is the straightest shooter in the room! he is as honest as the day is long, and become so from being in jail, this he told to us and i quote "please call any foul on yourself, when i was 20 i went to jail because ethics weren't high on my list" well, i'm here to tell you he is a walking genius who is honest fast thinking and will make pool bigger than all sports put together!!!!!! austin murphy was incredible, not only a child genius, but a magnificent pool player, who can hold his own to anyone of the great 150 ipt. karen corr proved women can play, as well as any man on earth, beating archer and parica, also hoffstader and fisher beat strickland and feijn repectivly. the british are comming and when they do, the ipt will be dominated by them. a young deaf lad named phil harrison plays at a million miles an hour and never misses, and that's just for beginners, once ronnie o'sullivan gets here, the british will reign supreme! there is not one ipt player who is so-so, everyone i saw play was fantastic! i will have a small write up on how i got into the ipt, you can catch that in the january issue of billiards digest. all in all it was the most magnificent tournament in the last 100 years, it was a pleasure watching pros take their time to think out the pattern play. i enjoyed meeting many of you, linda carter, vince goh, collin, the british crew, stefan santl and others, it was incredible, and efren played great to become the "king of the hill" i look foward to the masters, which just so you know will NOT be held as planned dates and venue will be announced within two weeks, so anyway, i had fun, i hope you did as well, look foward to seeing you and being seen at the masters, Bernie Friend New York.

Firstly, to Bernie, it was good meeting you, and quite an eye opener to experience the New York personality I've heard about.:D

Regarding Ronnie and the British, after watching Manalo dominate this tournament with his strong potting and positional play, (same goes for Allison and Karen), I do think the snooker players will have a very strong influence on this sport in coming years.

hope so bernie

hello bernie were just living the dream!

hows it going am darren appleton one of the brits

we are looking forward to the challenge also ppl seem to get mixed up and would like to clear up that every british player on ipt except ronnie and raj hundal only ever play 8ball pool and we have done for over 10years, tables we play on are 7fts or 8fts but small pockets, slow nap snooker cloth and smaller balls,we do play on television 3 or 4 times a year on sky sports but we do like a game of snooker and the accasional game of american pool...but the rewards financially are not great in the uk so since the introduction of ipt we are all focused and playing american pool full time..

the ipt is the best thing ever to happen to pool and will bring all the best pool players together in the world and each year the fields will get better and better all the dead wood will have gone! we all should be grateful someone like kt as taken the game my the neck and injected so much money and class into the pool world exciting times ahead!

and am sure us brits will surprise alot of ppl we are 8ball players by trade so its just a case adjusting to the bigger balls and cues bigger table not a problem for us ..but we know there is so many great players aswell so lots of hard work and who knows whats going to happen? its something new to everyone regarding conditions!

i still think the pockets are way too big and cloth not very good quality and too fast!

it was great to meet so many ppl in orlando cant wait to get out there playing!!

hope you all had a great xmas

Welcome to the forum, Dynamite! :)

You know, I had this same conversation with a few players, the English players having 8-ball expertise. Though the balls and table are a different size, the knowledge of 8-ball strategies is what could be an asset the British players.

How true, Dynamite. There are some good times up ahead on the tournament trail for players around the world. It is unknown territory for most, but a place that looks mighty inviting! :D

BTW, Dynamite, do you remember the names of the first three players in this snapshot? I took this picture in Orlando, but didn't write down their names.

AND while I'm procrastinating the beginning my work day, updating my photo gallery, would you be so kind as to tell me the name the blond cutie pie to the left of Mr. Fabio Petroni?

I have seen him so many times, at the U.S. Open and other events, and I cannot for the life of me remember his name! :p

I love the look on both of their faces. The two of them look as if they're ready to bust out laughing, don't they? All I said was: Say "cheese." :D

Check out how he had his necktie tucked in while he was playing pool on one of the practice tables out in the front hallway. :p

And how about those escalators!?

Hi Darren,
Good to see you here on the AZ boards:D

Looking forward to seeing how you and some of the other English style 8-ballers fare. I also come from an English 8-ball background.

For members who don't know Darren, he is one of the top few English 8-ball players in the world, with an impressive list of titles.

A story and pics about him here: http://www.uk8ball.com/article.php?sid=1411

Cheers,
Colin
