My first cue finally finished

Hi Scott

Looks like you finally got there, mate.....and what a piece it is. When we were standing in the shop looking up at the drying rack, I was hoping Dennis was going to say.....'Yeah, I am just finishing this up and it doesn't have an owner....want to buy it, Si?' Ha, ha, ha!!!!!

Just a drop dead gorgeous piece. The time and effort you have put in is clearly evident and you shoud rightly be proud.

Dennis is rightly at the top of the cue making tree. Now I can see he maybe there regarding teaching also. I can't wait to see what John will turn out in time, the man has dedication and more importantly, he is a good listener. I suppose we are all expecting big things....no pressure John:)

It was a pleasure meeting you and Darth, I hope to see you all next year.

Si

PS: due to the saliva that dripped on your unfinished cue, you may find the finish lifting in a couple of months:D

Scott, You described this cue and told me the background while we were killing time at the Philly airport after SBE. But, oh my! It turned out gorgeous. You should be very proud.

Thanks for sharing the story and pictures. Take care.

Scott.
Congrats. What an incredible first cue. There is so much work in that cue, I was amazed when I saw it in Dennis's shop.
The cue works on so many levels, up close and from a distance.
Thanks for posting the pics. I was hoping that you would enter it in the cue collectors show as a first effort!!
I think this cue is a labour of love, and someting to use and cherish and pass on to family as a cue that you made.
It does say a lot for Dennis as a friend and as a teacher;by the quality of this cue made by a novice.
Scott made it with Dennis's supervision. Its a testament to both of you.
congrats again,
Sanj

I think the funniest thing about all of this is the fact that Scott's FIRST cue is 10 times nicer than the majority of customs out there today!!!

I mean, based on these pictures, this cue has some seriously TOP NOTCH craftsmanship. The knowledge and teachings of guys like Dennis, Barry, Manzino, and others really proved to be a big help to you because this cue is HAWT!!!

Its a 'gambler' themed cue done a bit better than any I've ever seen before.

You should be proud Scott. NEVER sell that one.

Scott, that cue is unreal! The design, workmanship and that fact that you had the direction of Dennis made it all come together. I enjoyed meeting and talking to you and Dennis at VF. If you decide to start building cues, put me on the list!

Well I just completed my first cue. When we were in Vegas in 2006 for the BCA tournaments I mentioned to Dennis(Searing) that I always had wished that I could have built my own cue and he said " Let's do it", the rest is now history. I began construction on June 24, 2006 @ 10:15 am and finished April 22 2008 @ 7:43 pm. All I can say is what a wonderful adventure. I had like no craftsman skills in the beginning....Dennis taught me step by step and explained what to do and the rest was in my hands.

Initially I was going to build a four ebony point flat faced Ivory jointed cue and it just began to evolve into my Dice Cue. It is Lucky # 7, all inalys are one and six in the cue.

All white in the cue is Ivory and the silver is pure silver.
The forearm has an ebony remill and three veneers. I went with three shafts with matching joint caps and medium Moori tips.

Cortland Irish Linen wrap coutesy of the Pechauers.

Dennis made all of this possible and his encouragement and support was amazing. I am very appreciative of Dennis letting me do this in his shop and his guidance and friendship.

My thanks to Darth and JazznPool and Big John Horton for kicking around some ideas. My thanks to Gus Szamboti the reason I fell in love with cues,Barry Szamboti,John Showman, and Bob Manzino for inspiration and sharing of their cue building knowledge.

Thanks to Nick Serdula for showing me how to post the pictures.

Dennis thanks for everything and you made a dream come true.
Dennis you are the man,the myth, the legend.

Oh, by the way it plays like.......awesome, moves the cue ball like real great and the hit, feel and action perfect for me, the Ivory joint has a real nice soft smooth hit and crisp at the same time.

Thanks, Scott

Scott,
Thats an AWESOME looking cue. Love the veneer colors, dice inlays and especially the ringwork. Never seen a dice ringwork like that before. For your first cue, Im totally speechless, WOW! Thanks for sharing the pics!!!

Hello Tim,

Good question. That could happen on any cue by any cuemaker.

Dennis personally signs and dates only the cues that he personally builds. Every cue that is made in Dennis' shop has the "S" logo in the butt sleeve.

Hope that answers your question.

Scott
Scott,

I have to disagree with your last statement. I know 2 Big Jim cues that Big Jim made in Dennis's shop that don't have an S on them.

Hello everyone, I just wanted to say thank you to all of you for all of the positive comments, it does my heart good to hear them.

I have been asked for a closeup of the Dice inalys so here are a couple of pictures with the silver frames around the Ivory Dice etc.

Wow

Thanks for posting the macro pics!

Now I dont have to track you down to put my nose up to the cue...tremendous detail and execution!

Once again, great job!

Personally, I find dice on cues to be pretty tacky *BUT* you outdid yourself, man. This is one badass, and extremely tasteful, cue. If this is your design my hat is off to you. You have a great sense for it. You only have one problem from here on out if you continue making cues, you're going to have to be able to continue making things as kick ass as this one.

The cue is a stunner  , and all the more unbelieveable that it comes from a first time cue maker! Congrats Scott!

um.. WOW... great looking cue, great job, and congrats on all the fun and knowledge gained in building the cue! Mr Searing sure is a great teacher :D

Dennis must be one heck of a teacher for you to build this cue with no experience. It's beautiful and i'd never sell it if I were you. You can't put a price on the experience you had with Dennis.
