My home-made ball polisher.

Hey guys, you saw early on in this thread I made a polisher with a 10" Royobi inverted in a taping compound bucket much the same as lot of you guys. Well, I've had it for quite some time and the buffer finally STBed.

I went to get another at Home Depot and Royobi changed the design slightly which would have had me re cutting another taping compound bucked for fit.

Lazy b#$$D that I am, I decided to go to an automotive supply store, pick up a galvanized oil change pan, which is low profile (about 4" or so in height).

I cut a carpet circle to fit the bottom, I cut a 4" wide strip to go around the sides, glued them in with some all pupose panel caulk, and simply threw all 16 balls into the pan.

I also picked up some Plastic Motorcycle Windshield cleaner / polish at the Pep Boys store which I cut to a 50 / 50 mix with water. I put that in a squirt bottle and sprayed it lightly on the balls.

Now I just hold the buffer on the balls by hand for a few minutes while sitting in a chair and its done.

It took less than 15minutes to make. Works fine and I'm too lazy to do the first design one again. :) Thought I'd throw this quick and dirty fast idea out for us lazy guys. :)
Someone really lazy, would just order a Diamond ball polisher and be done with it...lmao

The downside is with no dividers, there seems to be little scuff marks on the balls. But, you really need to look hard to see them. Personally, I never seen them until somebody on here had metioned them.
I mentioned to you....LOL Anytime anyone wants to put their homemade ball polisher up against a Diamond ball polisher to see which machine does a better/faster job of cleaning and shining a set of balls, we can hook up for say....about $500 to see which one is better at the job...LOL

PS. You can throw in the Bloodworth and Ball Star in on that bet as well...lmao

The Diamond ball polisher gives any bucket polisher the 5 out, and the Bloodworth and Ball Star polishers the 5.

realkingcobra [Glen] Please remember there two markets you 're talking about.
1. Commercial
2. Home

If I want a Commerical Ball Polisher - Diamond is the one I would buy.
But since I only want one to clean balls at home. I design what I want and happy with the result, See My Homemade carom ball polisher thread.

If nothing else these threads are showing - players are wanting a reasonable cost Home Ball Polisher and are willing to pay around $100- $150 for one.

You mention Diamond is designing /building a home ball polish great!

Glenn, re-check the thread heading, we aren't buying equipment to do brain surgery here, we are polishing plastic pool balls for home use.

However, buying an 800 dollar pool ball polisher for your home table would not fit as well in the category of being lazy anyway, it would much more aptly fit the category of being an idiot, unless you were stinking rich and money wasn't an issue.

If you happen to fall into either category, good luck with your thing, most of us, however do not.

Rather, I suspect you enjoy being argumentative, since the notion of wasting that much money to polish a set of pool balls at home is so obviously ridiculous.

I take it then, that Allen Hopkins, along with 100's and 100's of other customers are rediculous?....LOL, that's OK, Wal-Mart and Sears loves guys like you, because they sell cheap cues and pool tables to customers like you all the time....lmfao so, it's all good;)

Glen / Realkingcobra--

I find the attitude that you've brought to this thread to be very disturbing and out of charactor of what I've seen in the past from you.

These guys are trying to help out others with a home made, inexpensive ball polisher and you're just slamming them. Would it be better if they built a black box around it?

If people are not satisfied with the way the balls are polished with this home made polisher, then they'll look into something better.

I've learned from other expierences not to burn bridges, you never know who your next customer could have been!

Best of luck with the sales,
Zim

I made one with no dividers and YES there are small marks on all the balls, have to wipe clean with rag.

What causes the marks? I'm using cheap commercial carpet from Home Depot.

Funny, I hear I burn bridges all the time, problem is, I never see the smoke from the blazing fires that burn them! What I do see is, new bridges being built all the time. I have no problem with anyone building home made ball polishers at all, the only thing I don't understand, is that while they're being cheap on the polisher, they're playing with $1,000+ dollar cues!!!

Its probably better for them to build a ball polisher then to try to make a cue.

I'd like to address some more of your comments.

Hopkins is a pro player, those of us speaking on this thread are not.

Hopkins probably falls into the category of being able to piss away 800 dollars on a home cleaner. Perhaps they even gave it to him as an endorsement.

Who said anything about buying $1000 dollar cues in this thread? Again we are cleaning plastic balls here for our home tables. Perhaps the money the folks save on what would be wasted with (as one poster eluded to a homemade cleaner with black plywood covering) a commercial cleaner is able to be better spent on their hobby of cue collecting.

If walmart cues played as well as some of the expensive cues, players would buy them. Homemade ball cleaners clean as well as commercial cleaners, so people make them.

I've been playing this game for over 45yrs, probably longer than you've been alive, I've owned a room, I've seen and heard pretty much all of it. Your barking is nothing new, but it is just as irrational and annoying as any.

Glen [realkingcobra] I have enjoy reading most of your threads/posts, especially in the"Talk To A Mechanic" section of AZBilliard, lot of wealth of information.

But could it be your posts here end up in the wrong thread? See these threads:

I've seen the Diamond Ball Polisher (commercial) in use and the balls before and after polishing... it DOES work great! To me, it's only worth the money if you're going to be polishing 10+ racks of balls on a weekly or even monthly basis. I don't know many that would spend $400, let alone $800 on a ball polisher for 1 set of balls for their home use.

Personally, I run Zim's Rack 8-Ball League, which is not held at pool rooms, but at bars, taverns, bowling alleys, etc, with no more than 2 tables. Most of them only have 1 table. I would like to have a ball polisher that is portable (1 person w/out a dolley) that I could take to each bar once a month and polish the balls. The players will notice a difference, most likely not the bar owner/manager. The players will talk about the "new" balls, and say something to the owner/manager. Who knows, word gets out I might have people or bars that participate in my league buying/making their own affordable ball polisher.

Realkingcobra- I don't remember if you work at Diamond or are an authorized dealer, but either way... you shouldn't be proud of burning bridges. You should treat everyone as if they were in the market for Diamond Products and could afford them. You never know who or how many customers you could lose by burning one bridge. A bridge is a pathway to everywhere!

No, he bought his Diamond polisher, I delivered it on one of my delivery's.

Sorry, they don't clean as well, that is why they leave the marks on the balls from hitting each other while spinning around, and because the balls don't rotate while they spin, they shine like a yoyo.

Sorry, you have my age wrong...LOL, If wasting money was of real concern, buying cues would be the first place to start saving! It's just funny that if it's something someone wants, then they can spend the money!

And I too have owned a pool room, in fact, 3 of them!!! Got anything else to say know it all?

So you say the balls can't touch each other during cleaning for a markless ball?

When will the Diamond home version be available? I have a Diamond table and I like their products but $700 + ship is just too much for me.

My home built ball cleaner doesn't do a 100% job.
