My JoeyQ (JoeyInCali) review...

First off, this cue was ordered by my friend Noel (AZB nick: nbc). He finds the cue too forward balanced and light for his liking. He told me to try the cue and if I like it, I can buy it off him. After a few racks with this baby, I know I will like this cue. I took it off Noel's hands.

I have been playing with this cue now for 2 weeks and is very familiar with how it plays. At first, the cue was bordering on the soft side, not wimpy, otherwise, I won't even have bought it.

First thing I did was changed the tip of the first shaft to Molavia Hard. It played a little better, but I was still not satisfied. Next, I took the 2nd shaft and replace the tip to SuperPro and boy, it is turning into a monster. It's giving me smiles when I'm hitting that cue ball. It's still not the Firm and Solid Hit that I'm looking for, but it will do for now.

I think I will be sending the other shaft (the one with Molavia Hard) and will replace the Ferrule using Mason's Micarta. Will keep you posted on that when it gets back.

Overall, the cue is well built. The woods and materials used are high grade. The fit is superb and the finish is done well. With a few modifications and fine tuning, the cue will be a firm and solid hitter the way I want it to hit.

If I didn't make my own cues....thats the cue I'd play with right there. Except I'd of left it soft hitting. Truthfully thats all the cue anyone needs...top shelf build quality and excellent performance in an elegant, classy design.
Jhun...if you want it extra crisp then change the ferrule to LBM or even Ivorine 4....then try the Tiger H....or of course your SuperPro. The Tiger H is very hard, not quite as hard as the SuperPro but close, yet the Tiger H may offer more a bit more performance in a premium tip. Just my thoughts buddy.

Very nice work

I like the piece of birdseye maple he used for the handle

Looks like a real good player
I love playing with my Joey cue, as does a guy I let use it one night.
He played better that night than he does with his $3800.00 cue that he designed and had made exactly to his specifications.

Good luck with it

That's a beautiful cue. He kept it simple, lots of decoration would have just detracted from the natural beauty of the wood. Bubinga is a beautiful wood, one of my favorites, and the combination of that and the great piece of birdseye maple is just perfect.

Thanx guys for the kind words. If you've all noticed, all my cues are like that, Art by nature (let the wood speak) and built by Masters. :)

Thats exactly what I always say...."let the wood speak". Beautiful wood makes the cue. I'm just not a fan of a ton of inlays. You have wonderful taste sir.:)

I agree, inlays IMO ruin a cue. with birdseye like that, you dont need little ivory bits all over. very nice cue though.

this cue look like a zylr replica to me :(
It sure does.
I even started that blank at Kerry's place 4 years ago when I apprenticed thru him.
Z uses a longer stag collar and does not like A/B rings. He also uses 3/8 11 joint pin.

that is a beautiful cue, no doubt. I too would have left it as soft hitting though.

Nice cue, just looking at the quality shafts...I would say it's definitely a player's cue.

Very nice

Very nice cue.....I like those rings very much. Yes, that's some really nice BEM and it also looks like the forearm is bubinga.

Do you make wrapless cues only? who knows I don't have a Plain Jane and would not mind looking into into one of these, the only thing is I do not play well with wrapless cues due to the fact that my hands get sweaty.

I'm always on the look out for good playing cues.

Nice work man.

Tony
