I picked this lathe up from a friend for $180...a few years ago. It is a Cummins 7x12....I do tips, ferruls, turn downs, cleanings, wraps, joint work, butt caps....I built as you see 2 fixtures , the one to the left is a 1" pillow block bearing with a delrin sleeve and the one to the right of the lathe holds my live center and another v groove bearing for working on butts....it has worked great for me for several years....OTB

I have that same lathe. Decent little lathe for the money, and parts are readily available through little machine shop, although I don't use it for tipping or building. It's certainly more then capable of doing tips and ferrules though. I use mine mostly for metal turning. I also use It modifying small parts for cues like SS pins and weight bolts, I even polish them out on It. It's also small enough that I can move It by myself and will fit on a shelf out of the way if I want.
 
I like the high tech dust collection system hanging on the wall....... the ole dust buster. :)

Hey... you know what??? Mine does too. I wait until the saw dust is so deep that I have trouble finding my tools. Then I call her in on the pretense to ask her opinion on a cue. She says "what a mess, I think I will use the shop vac and clean up"..........

works every time

there is not near enough sawdust and dirt there
 
Sheeesh, I haven't built a cue in a decade and have more saw dust on my shoes. Dirty it up a little and take new pics.
