My New avatar

I have received a couple of pm's and an email about my new avatar asking where it is. My new avatar is of the local pool room here in Albany NY. It is called the Golden Cue. it is run by the Rocco Spinelli family. This picture was taken during last years Joss Tournament stop. It has been in continuous operation with the same equipment (gold crown 2's) since 1963. For equipment that old, they still play great. After each player gets done playing they wipe down the tables rails and the cloth with a damp rag. Thus keeping them clean. And they are vaccuumed every morning before opening. They charge $4.50 per hour per player. And they don't object if you just want to come in and soak up the heat or air conditioning. Oh, no smoking or alcohol. (YET) I had better stop. this is beginning to sound like a commercial add. It's just that i am proud to call this room home.....................mike
 
That is a cool avatar for sure. Mine me making a ball at one of our local pool halls:)

nice place Cueball..those tables look alot closer together than normal.is it it just an illusion ?

although it is not an optical illusion. they are somewhat close. but not as close as the picture deems them. so maybe it is. Anyway, we have had several Joss Tournaments there and have never had a complaint. As a matter of fact Keith McCready won our Joss tournament 2 years in a row. And we always draw a good list of players..................mike

I'll second what Mike said about the Golden Cue. I've done some lessons in there, and it's a great place. Mr. Spinelli is very friendly and very supportive of pool in general.

"Its called the Golden Cue". I grew up in the Golden Cue. But not yours in New York. It does seem to be a favorite name for a room. It looks like a very nice room. Is all the lighting for the tables in the ceiling?

I also played at the Golden Cue on Queens Blvd. in Queens. Last time there i played some 3 cushion billiards with Johnny Ervalino... Gosh i miss him....now back to the room...Yes it is Jack.....The owner gets up on a ladder a few times a year and cleans them all. Like i said before. He wipes them down after every use and vaccuum's both the tables and the floor every day. he likes to keep the place real clean for everybody. heck, he just went out and bought a 50" Sony TV for us to watch...............................mike
 
The Golden Cue is a nice place to go,some decent players up there and i did enjoy the Joss tour event there but not as much as my home room owner Dave Pinkston who won it this past year.The lighting takes some getting used to but its very adequate,the room is good sized with GCs 1-3 i believe but no 4s i think,good old style room.Can you post some pics of that tourney Mike?

I cannot find my pictures from the tournament you are speaking about. They are on my old computer!

However, here's a picture of Dave at another Joss Tour event, depicted on the left!

I have a racing helmet actually painted like that. I used it when I drove demolition cars.

Yeah thats Dave and his wonderful wife Ruthie along with Earl Herring a really great player from Gallery Billiards and a real gentleman,3 of the nicest people you could meet.

Great PIC.....Yes, Earl Herring. What a great undercover player out of NY.

Played w/ Earl many times on the trail, its always a battle. But very friendly.

the best weekly tours around at that time. 48 players were a given then!!

Earl is a great player and pretty unknown,he used to run around back in the 70s i believe,you cant be that old Frank,lol.Do you happen to also know Gil Black?

Frankie does get around! :D

The Earl depicted in the picture, I think, has a nickname of "Preacher." He is a very nice man!

Interestingly, he was born in the same town in North Carolina as another famous Earl, the one and only Earl Strickland! :p
