i just finished this one as well,to keep.it is Goncalo into straight grain Maple.i used a very stiff taper and put a special tip/ferrule combo,it is very hard, harder than G-10.the best part is it doesn't make that ping or tink sound that G-10 does.it sounds solid and quiet like leather, and holds chalk better.it took 15 minutes to shape the tip b/c the razor blade can't cut the stuff very well.it jumps very high and will spin whitey b/c it holds chalk so well.this material is the best i have ever tried on a j/b and i am very content with it.it is harder than G-10 as much as G-10 is harder than Phenolic.it has aluminum(.308 minor)3/8-10 pins and the one at the jump joint is a quick release that doesn't need an insert, very solid.

Yes and Yes :D

$400 sounds good to me.i think i will start them at $300 and depending on the woods go up from there and maxing out at $400 for a real exotic splice.i have 4 blanks coming Tulip/Colored Madagascar Ebony,Curly Purpleheart/Madgascar Ebony,Pau Ferro/Birdseye,and a Red Cocobolo/Satinwood.some will be sneakies as i hate cutiing a jump joint in a real pretty one.i should have soem like this ready in a month or two and some exotics ready in 3-4 months.

So .. what is your honest comparison of your j/b vs. others you've owned .. KV, BK2 and ???

How thick is the shaft? How's it break? Jump?

I know first hand your finish is top notch and have compared it against KV and BK in person.

i haven't been in action in months so it is hard to say,i won't know for sure until i play a session.all i did was break maybe 10 times and jump 15-20 balls, but it worked great.i was very happy with it.the shaft is 13.25 with a very stiff taper.i also left the butt bigger in the joint.my cues are skinnier there than standard, but on this cue i left it .855".i really liked the way it broke.it was nice and quiet and solid.one thing i don't like about phenolic and G-10 ferrules is the loud noise they make and this stuff is much quieter.it jumps extremely high and easy, and jumps well when the cue ball is close to the object ball.i don't feel right making comparasons of my own stuff, but i do like it.i love the BK2 for breaking, but for some reason i had trouble controling whitey sometimes.i think it was the 12.75mm tip,it is a little small for preference.i was thinking about getting some Lyptus wood or laminated Maple for the shafts, but this one works pretty well.i might send it to you to try and then you can send it to Joe to try.maybe you guys can give me some constructive criticism.
