I just picked up a new tool and thought I would share it with everyone. It is called the mini ductor and it is a flameless noncontact heater to be used on ferrous materials. It has no effect on non ferrous materials (wood, plastic, ect...) The tool uses high frequency alternating magnetic fields to vibrate the electrons in metal thru the principal of electromagnet induction. IE it heats metal with an alternating frequency electromagnet. The tool itself does nothing to the wood or finish of a cue. It heats the jointpin rapidly and there is no flame to deal with so you dont have to worry about scorching the cue. I took a scrap cue and heated the pin for aprox. 30 seconds and it spun right out. I felt the wood and it barely felt any warmer than room temprature. The pin heats quickly so there is not much time for heat to transfer to the wood.
I work in an auto shop that also has a bodyshop and these type tools have been around for a while. This model is brand new and much smaller. It is a 1000watt unit. So there you go a new tool for everyone to enjoy. Plus now it won't matter how many times I forget to close the oxygen tank valve on my torches, I will always be ready for bent pins. LOL. Chris.

Wow!!! That's friggin neat. Hmmmm, what about brass & aluminum joint pins? Thanks for posting.
 
I don't do any cue work to speak of but I dig new tools. Nice!
 
Nice. All along I have been using a torch to get rusted stuck bolts out of old cars. Damn nice tool..
 
I got mine thru my local cornwell dealer for $500. It is a little pricey but what the heck. when working on high dollar cues or any cues for that matter it makes the job a snap and you don't have to worry about damaging the finish with an open flame. The only way you will damage the cue is if you keep heating the pin too long and let the heat transfer from the pin too the wood and break the glue bond in the joint or bubble the finish. When I tested it, it works so quickly the outter diameter of the cue joint does not even feel warm. Chris.
 
i see your point chris. just doing a refiish or 2 from screwing up. its a great idea. makes it worth it. if you do alot of repairs like scott sherbine but i dont think i will have a use for it. nifty little gadget though
 
.......makes me wonder, I have an induction cook-top. Might just have to give it a try.
