My suggestion for all the unhappy pool players

In the last week, I've read that Nine Ball is all luck, One Pocket is slow and boring, and Eight Ball is a stupid game as well. I have a suggestion for all these people who hate so many pool games.

TAKE UP GOLF!

JH,
You should charge for this advice. Very sound.

While I can watch one-pocket for only a fair bit of time; I've NEVER played any pool game I didn't love....maybe there should be a club for people who DO love pool in all of it's myriad forms (oh wait...there is a club called AZB...); and maybe there should be a yearly meeting for those club members (oh wait...there is such a meeting called the DCC...please ignore this post).

If you don't like watching a certain game; then play it...if you don't love it then, you are probably not a true pool fanatic.

I play tennis instead... does that count?

Oh, by the way... I don't mind the luck in 9 ball. I'll take all the help I can get:smile: I just like tennis:)

S.

SD,
We will allow you the tennis time as long as you are still getting in your mandatory 4-6 hours of daily FOCUSED POOL PRACTICE!!!!

(starting yesterday I hope)

Williebetmore,

The good news is I did practice yesterday...it was more like 4-6 minutes (ADHD).

The bad news? None. I am happy right now just goofing around:smile:

Try some simple drills to enhance your cue ball control. Then, the game might become more enjoyable for you? If not. Take a 5 minute time out, go to your corner.

To clarrify my thought, I was agreeing with Jay and the original post.

Jay, two of these threads were started by chefjeff as a joke. I am familiar with him from the NPR section. Ususally when I see that he's posting I expect him to tell us that the corruptive forces of the statists are at work again. Much to my surprise, this wasn't the case on these two threads. So in all fairness, it looks like he was just horsin' around.

Right On Jay!

Yeah! Pool isn't supposed to be easy, that's why so many people keep playing it!! Golf!!! Yeah, played it a few times, kept shooting 80-84's. Figured if I could do that it wasn't much of a challenge to play. Put the clubs down in 1979,haven't picked up one since.
Darn Lucky if I occassionally run out in any pool game. Still looking to run a Hundred in 14.1...:crying:

Golf is worse, at least in pool you don't lose your ball all the time.

what is your suggestion if you LOVE all those games, yet hate most of the people that seem to be the ones that play them?

Since you are recommending GOLF, may I assume that the Reverend Fatboy hasn't converted you to SNOOKER?

Ain't it the truth. I have never seen the like of people bad-mouthing pool lately. Especially One Pocket. Why, it almost broke my heart.
What I think happened was a bunch of bowlers sneaked in and sabotaged the place. Yeah, that's it. Terrorist bowlers. ;)

CheffJeff is not my favorite person for npr reasons, but I have found both of his threads (1p and 8ball) absolutely hilarious. (I have even been waiting until 24 hours have passed so I can green him for the latest one.)

We mock what we love- it's just another form of endearment. And I think the mockery has to ring a little true- or it wouldn't be funny. I hope you guys aren't taking the two joke threads too seriously. And personally, I am both dreading and looking forward to when he starts a thread making fun of my own favorite game (9ball).

I have no illusions that any game is sacred.

As for golf- wait- that involves some exercise out in the fresh air and sunshiney daylight hours, right? (shudders)

If I'm going out in the bright sunshine, the only thing getting exercised is my left hand holding a fishing rod and my right with a beer in it.

Other than that, I will keep to my vampire ways and only come out at night when it involves a pool hall.

There is way too much money in Golf. They might become happy or something. Arrrgg! Can't let that happen!

Sorry...please forgive my whinning..that said, I actually enjoy one pocket..
An most other pool games..the bellyachers bring tears of joy to my eyes..
Its like looking in a mirror from time to time, thinking yeah when I was 16
I acted some what like that..

I might take up curling instead.

My dream retirement consists of 18 holes of golf in the morning; a couple of games of straight pool in the afternoon; a nap; then maybe the track or poker or a movie with the wife.

I don't like seeing ANY game bad mouthed because someone might not "get it"

I have played MANY games thru the years for the pure FUN of it. I started off bowling cause my mom was rolling leagues during the week and I was the "tagalong kid". By far....to be on top of the heap.....pick up a bowling ball. it gives curling the 5 out....and gets the 6 ball from 9ball! :)

next I did the tennis thing....for a short fat ass kid I could run those skinny kids all over the court. The problem was keeping my GPA above......"my Dad is the DA and I NEED to be #1 singles"!...never could beat that one.

next was GOLF....best game ever IMO. I started out caddying at Merion cricket club....if you dont know....it was like being a rack boy at Johnson city. Rich and I'll shove it in your face was the best hobby they had there...beating the members kids out of "lunch money" was my favorite hobby.

Soon after my uncle....the Merion caddy master....fired me :) I re-found pool. We had a sweet GCII in our basement. I always needed an outlet, and that friggin Brusnwick was gonna be my beeeyoootch.

I have always had the "nack", "luck", hand eye, whatever to pick games up quick.....pool was different. There was no one in my basement to "beat"? so i spent hte next 10 years learning what the table had to offer.

I have re-touched a few games like golf over the years but pool is the only drug of choice that has stood the test of time.

You can slam 1 pocket for being "slow".......but you only prove your lack of understanding.

8ball may be "silly" but to the experienced player the game requires all your shots.

rotation games are the rage...and rightly so IMO, they demand ALL my attention, and free time...............i like all the games.....respect most....and want to own 14.1 more then any.....to this point thats not the case.

cool thread!
