Mystery Cue

I got this back in the late 70's as a present from my wife the first year I competed in the New England 14.1 Championships. Boought it from the winner the previous year.... Herb Lehman. I've been out of pool for quite some time but am buying back in now that I have the time. Can anyone identify the maker of this? Any help would be appreciated. Brass joint, larger than normal grip diameter, straight and hits great.

Can I see a close up of the butt? I can't make out what those rings look like.
 
Yup, sure would like to see those rings.

The case looks likely to be a Fellini. Nice. Does it have a tag inside? Sadly it also looks to be a banana...warped. It happens sometimes with them. Hopefully it's just the pic though...

I will post some more pics of the rings and butt today. The fellini is in really good condition and has the tag on the inside.
 
Interestingly it looks like a brass 18 thread pin. Is that correct?

Thanks so much for taking your time to view and comment on this post. Yes the pin is brass but, I dont really know the size. For those who wanted pics of the rings here are some I took this AM.

No idea who made it. It's a custom based on a Titlist, looks like an aluminum joint 5/16X18 brass- I would say late 1960's, early 1970's. I can't tell what wood the butt rings are made from. Probably one of the obscure East coast custom cue makers.

Any chance this is one of the builders related to National, or Gandy?

Looks like the right time frame and General style/construction. Certainly a Titlist, shame the points are so uneven but I don't think it detracts much from an old soldier like this one.

Edit: Looking down the length of the butt it has that old elongated Coke bottle kind of contour to the taper, and looks fairly fat in the handle. Very old school.

Unless somebody actually recognizes this cue and knows the maker, I don't think it will be identified. I asked someobody who knows this era better than most, from productions to customs, and he was stumped too.

It's a unique cue - I would suggest to the original poster to wait about six months and run the thread again - by then more users will be around and you might get a lucky identification.

Any idea what material the butt rings are made from?

I would agree.

Anything I can think of is just reaching for straws at this point.

I think you make a great suggestion to wait and post it again. You never know, somebody might recognize it. There is always a chance.

I don't know Herb personally but someone here must. If shown pictures he might remember who built the cue? It would be worth it to ask. I'm curious to know who built this old school cue.

That Mahatma guy, I heard tell he could hold his own on the table.
That was when is wasn't busy walking around in his underwear, meditating and eating vegetables.

Mathatma and the Dolly Lamba had a showdown once. I think I saw it on UTube.

might be an old adams cue. he made some that looked alot like that and the shaft joint looks like one.
 
I think it may be an early Adams as well but, really can't confirm it. I'll try again in a few months and see if anyone recognizes it. It's been some time since I last spoke with Herb Lehman but, I'll give him a call and see if he recalls where the cue came from as well. Thanks to all who took the time to try to resolve the mystery cue puzzle.

It's a custom Titlist conversion of some sort. Adam cues didn't use Titlist forearms - they made a Titlist look-alike but the points were longer and you can easily see the difference.
 
Definitely not Adam IMHO.


This is a true Titlist conversion unless somebody went to all the trouble to exactly reproduce a Titlist 40 years ago...which would have been nuts since they were still easy to find at that time. Who would do that?

As Tate said, even the similar Adam ones had longer points.

Try, Try and Try again

On earlier advce I'm reposting this again to see if anyone can take a fresh look and has an idea on who may have constructed this cue. thanks for any help you can offer.
