New slice of 860 Electric Blue installed within the last 2 weeks.
Customer states cloth looked fine when received but noticed whiteish spot after install (unknown installer).

Any comments on what might have caused this white spot?
Doubtful it came from Belgium this way.
Thanks

It might be a stretch, but it looks to me like the installer may have accidentally marked the wrong end of the table for the spot, and rubbed a scrap piece of cloth on the mistake to remove it, consequently leaving a large burn mark...

One more pic.
I'm inclined to think this spot is a result of some problem with applying a rack spot.
The other end does have a rack spot but a bit hard to see.
Comments?

this may sound stupid

this may sound stupid, but, I don't care: I have seen clear glass lightbulbs with that old style of filament and the bulb leaves a weird shadow on the cloth??? I know I am reaching, but, I am not worried about being wrong :p

I do notice around the left corner pocket you can see it was not stretched evenly, its wavey.

My first thought was it was just coming from the light as well. You can see the big shadowy circle from the fixture in 2 spots on the cloth. Regardless it looks like very weird or annoying lighting.

Take a strong magnifying glass and give it a good close look.
If the weave or fibers are damaged, it will be obvious.
If there is something on the fabric like chalk, leftover adhesive, plaster, wax, etc, it will also be obvious.

Dartman... Ask your customer to turn off the light and check the area with a flashlight.
Maybe just by blocking out the overhead light with a magazine would show something.

Can't believe that there's something wrong with the cloth if he bought it from you. Carl

Ask him to swing the light and see if the spot moves with the swinging light.

Thanks for the input guys.
I will advise the customer to turn off the light and see if the spot
is still there. Short of that I will have him return the bed piece and
send it over to Simonis in Chicago to determine if it's a mfg flaw
or caused by something else.
I've been in the biz since 1996 and have never seen a problem
like this with Simonis.

That is pretty accommodating of you. Personally feel this is on the installer for either causing or not seeing it before install. Assuming its not just that lighting. Looks like a crappy cloth install that's for sure.

maybe there was something under the cloth like water putty and the installer just flattened it with a hammer. seen that before...

You could ask the customer to put a sheet of blue paper over the spot.
A white spot on the paper will show up if there's a hot spot in the bulb.

Update
He turned off the table light and noted that the spot was "virtually undetectable".
That to me means he can still see something wrong.
So I am having him return the bed cloth and we will see what Simonis says.
In the meantime I'm shipping him a replacement bed cloth.

Follow-Up
Original bed cloth received back but could not find a flaw in the cloth.
We sold the customer a replacement bed-only with the stipulation that if Simonis determined
there indeed was a flaw then we would do a credit for the replacement cloth.

After receipt, Simonis determined there was no "flaw" in the cloth however
what they found was a loose white thread that got caught in the cloth during weaving.
They were able to remove the entire thread with tweezers
and the cloth remains serviceable.

Felice stated that during weaving there are loose threads sometimes floating
around in the air at the mill and at times they get caught in the weaving process. Generally
you would not see this until the cloth is stretched but sometimes it's obvious.
She further stated - that any experienced installer should have been able to fix the problem
on-site just as they did at Simonis.

Altho the cloth was not legitimately flawed they did give a credit and
we in turn credited the customer for the replacement cloth shipped to him.

End result
Customer had replacement cloth installed and is satisfied.
