Anybody have any info on the National Championship Series? Is this an Open format?

You'll find all the press release, past winners and future qualifier schedules. And YES, it's open format. Any man or woman, pro or amateur can try to win the title of US National Champion and earn the right to represent the USA in the World Championship with all the expenses paid and then some spending money:thumbup2:

Qualifiers are held at hosting pool rooms throughout US to face off for the Nationals in Las Vegas (Golden Nugget Casino & Hotel) on 13-15 Feb 2009. There is only one winner to represent the USA to the world stage with a covenant title of 2008 US 8 Ball National Champion, but to the rest of players, there are $32,000 prize fund to be divide up by top finishers of 64. NCS has not made a press release about how much of field will be paid down, top third or top quarter, but I'm sure it will be announced soon.

What I don't understand is why the players are not taking advantage of this awesome opportunity... There are only few invites to top pro players and trying to cover the travel expense out of pocket isn't cheap either! I think it's because this program is so new and not a lot of people fully understand what it's about. There has been great support from the room owners and once players realize what an incredible opportunity this is, I think the National Championship Series will be a huge success.

Still a little hazy. Are you playing purely to get into another tourney out in Vegas? Or does it pay the field as well?

With a full field of 64 there will be $32,000 prize fund paying out to the top 1/3.

I think first place is around $6000 total based on that. So if you figure the trip expenses are $2000-$2500 the winner gets the difference in cash.

I think the payouts will be up soon.

I do know the Golden Nugget where the finals are being held is a nice place. I looked around there the other day and was very impressed.

Basically for the price of playing in qualifier you are taking a shot at a paid entry to a $32,000 event with a chance for a paid entry and cash to a $200,000 event. No schemes or scams here. Just a way for someone to win their way to a good tourney in Vegas and possibly the World Championships.

If your question is for the qualifier event whether there is any money to win other than the spot to the Nationals...

It depends on the player turn out and if the room decides to add any money or not. The whole objective of the qualifier is to raise the entry fee to the Nationals for the winner(s).

For example, if there were 50 players with 2 qualifying spots then whatever money was left over from covering 2 entry spots should be divided up amongst top finishers.

Gotcha. Sorry, but color me a bit skeptical these days. I guess maybe I have to try to make it over there now. Steve, I take it you are going?

Just ask questions and you will see it is pretty straight forward. All events are on 9' tables - open to any player that can get a US passport. (That is because the winner MUST be able to represent the US at the world's event).

With a full field of 64 - which we will be very close to filling - there will be a total of $32,000 in the prize fund. 1/3 of the field will be paid. First gets $6,000 - which will pay all expenses to the WPA 8-ball event and the balance will be paid in cash.

This is the first opportunity for a person to win a local tournament and progress to a National Championship and then to a world's championship.

We appreciate all of the support we have gotten from all of the rooms. Most are really excited about the future of this program.

The US National Champion gets air, hotel & expense money totaling to$6000.00 and a chance to compete among world's best 8 ball players in Fujairah, United Arab Emirates 5-11 April 2009.

Then the next series of qualifier will begin for World 9 Ball, World 10 Ball and so forth - according to WPA schedules;)

Based on the 64 player field, below is the breakdown of the payouts:

1st Place: $6000 (winner will represent the United States to the WPA 8-Ball Championship in Fujairah, United Arab Emirates April 5-11, 2009 with air, hotel and spending expenses plus cash balance, approximately $2500 - $3000)

2nd Place: $4800

3rd Place: $3700

4th Place: $2700

5th-6th Place: $2000

7th-8th Place: $1400

9th-12th Place: $900

13th-16th Place: $500

17th-24th Place: $300

The NCS is open to all players, men, women, amatuer and professional who can hold a U.S passport.
