Need some names and input.

I have a nice ringtail I need installed on my cue. The cue has a black leather wrap on it now if that makes a difference.

First on the list is quality of installation, second is turn around time, and third is cost.

Thanks

Varney has recently told me he's got a good leather guy, make sure he sees this thread here...

Koo is your man...Kenny Koo! Aka FLYINGSNAIL...not a better exotic wrap job can be bought for any amount. Pure top shelf quality!

Any other names?

I contacted Kenny and don't think that is going to work out.

I will contact J&D and see.

Did a search and saw the name ratcues mentioned. Any feedback on them?

Ryan at Rat cues does quality as well. I doubt you'll get a better price than Jim Lee of J&D. Many makers won't be interested in installing a wrap YOU provide....that cuts their profit right there...then to ask for a deal on the labor only....thats a tough one. Price of gas...cuemakers have to eat too...you can't get something for nothing. Remember...you get exactly what you pay for. I'm sure the price Kenny quoted you is very fair....he is ALWAYS more than fair on anything anyone needs. If it was a cue I planned on keeping & wanted a top quality job....I'd just of sent it to Kenny. He really is a honest gentleman whom I personally wouldn't question his price.;)

I have heard nothing but good things about his work.

The cue I want the wrap on is a nice Ebony Coker. It's a nice cue, it is my playing cue, but lets face it, it's only worth 500, at the most 600.

So it's kind of hard for me to justify paying half of what my cue is worth for a leather wrap installation, especially while supplying the wrap.

He has a large family to feed...I hear there are 15 family members living in his apt. Plus the price of gas is killing him....he can only fit 2 in his Porsche....so it takes like 7 trips just to take everyone to the store.:D :D :D

That may be true but putting a new wrap on it and a nice leather at that will only up the value for your cue. It's not like you are still going to have only a $500 cue when you are done, you will come out the better...but only if the work is quality

Probably not in this case as the cue has a nice leather wrap already.

So the new wrap I have, and want installed, is mainly just for looks. The new wrap is a white and black ringtail that I think will look really nice with ebony.

So you're saying he quoted you around $250.00 just for the labor??

Never know until .....

Hi Jeff,
Yes, I quoted you $220.00 shipped with insured usps express mail. Like said in my pm I dont know the quality of Lizard skin you got, might be too thick or too thin, also you cue already have a leather wrap. I dont know what's under that cue, I dont know who install that leather and cue handle could have cutting the groove too deep. There 's can be many things can go worng. I charge $250 shipped for Lizard wrap, I wont open a can or worms if I dont have to, the leather you have on your cue dont look that bad, if I were you I would just keep that on to save you some money since is not a highend cue. JMOP.

Awesome Wraps...

I have seen a few of the cues that were wrapped by Albrecht Custom Cues and they were incredible...hard to find the seam and I know he has excellent customer service and fast turn around times....not sure about pricing, but he posts on here daily. Hope this helps....

I do a good leather wrap but like kenny said there are factors. I almost bet that wrap is thicker then the ringtail. Takin is easy adding is not. Theres only I e way to find out thats taking the old one off. After factoring in shipping and insurance it won't be cheap.

Jerry rauenzahn does the best leather ive ever seen. A friend gets me scalpels so my seem is non exsistand now.

I may have bought a Ringtail and not even be able to use it.

The Ringtail is .027 -.026 to .028

I have some leather similar to the kind on my cue and it is thicker, around .04

damn

Good points Kenny...also what happens if something goes awry and you have to pull the provided lizard wrap off and its trashed? I know that has never happened to any of the installers here .:D  :D

Leather Wrap installed

I heard Paul Mottey does good work but I don't have any examples to show you. I think he charges $250 for lizard skin wrap on his cues and more for work on other cues maybe $300+.
He can be contacted at:
MotteyCues@aol.com
http://www.motteycues.com/
I'm currently having Mueller install a lizard skin wrap on a McWorter I have and can post pictures later. I believe they are the cheapest out there to install a leather wrap.

i always buy from the same two ppl but i know from experience that the lizard i use is thinner then the textured leather. i can go from linen to lixard with little to no change but leather takes more work
