Hi Everyone,
I am currently opening up a new pool in my area and need advice on what kind of tables to purchase. Which tables are durable and affordable and are common for pool hall use? Also, how liable are used tables? Any advice/information is appreciated.

Thank you!

I would go with Brunswick or Diamond..... is what everyone seems to play on for the most part. Brunswick will give you 10 tables/lights/balls/ect. for a set price and is financable....around 43k if I'm not mistaken....Diamond should give you the same deal around about ...not 100% sure though. Alot of pool rooms go with the used equipment from pool halls closing, tournaments, ect. You can save alot of money by doing this and from what I have seen the tables are usually in great shape...depends. Tables 10 years or less old aren't going to show alot of ware imo.

I to am thinking about this very same venture and have done a bit of research on the subject. I prefer Brunswick lll or newer and Diamond bar boxes are the cream of the crop. Do the shopping around thing and get the best deals. They are out there. Ebay, Craigslist, here...ect. Check with Diamond about purchasing tables after the big tourny's, Billiard Expo, Derby.

thanks alot, I did look into those tables, kind of pricey.. maybe I will go with used tables/furniture. Do you have any pointers on how to find pool halls that are closing? Do they usually inform the public, through newspaper ads maybe?

Ebay and tournament directors after the big tourny's. I got my home table from a room closing down in Long Island NY, and I live in VA and had to drive to get it.... he had 13 tables and just about everything you could think of in a pool room for sale. I found this on Ebay, Really Really good prices. A pool room in FL I just recently went in was possibly one of the nicest Ive been in and EVERYTHING they have there (23 Diamond and GC lll tables,5 Diamond Barboxes, huge seating area with booths and tables, spectator chairs and cue racks, as well as 16 TV's and wall mounts and a huge bar) came from 2 rooms that had closed. Ebay would be my first choice in monitoring this kind of thing. Good luck with that.

Definitely go with used tables. New tables will not increase your income at all. Just make sure they are quality tables kept in good condition.

thanks cuejoey, I will PM him..

ShootingRazbone, I have been checking ebay and will start contacting tournaments, as soon as I find out where in my area or driving distance they are being held..

and yea we have decided that same thing. new tables will not increase our revenue. we are going with used tables as soon as I find them..

thanks for all the advice, and for any additional information you guys can provide on used tables, or pool halls that are closing, etc. than you

Any serious pool hall must have either GC's or Diamonds. Used Diamonds are harder to come by, maybe not as difficult on the East Coast as further west. There are not too many pool halls equipped with Diamonds in S. California.

On Ebay right now.... 2 adds....1. 6 GC4's 3400 a piece
2. 8 GC3's for 2000 a piece

Not bad at all and worth the trips to get them! Fills you a nice pool room full of equipment for a 1/4 of the price.

I would respectfully disagree. I play in a hall that has 9ft. Connelly Ultimates and they are really nice tables.

I respect that opinion. I just feel GC's and Diamonds are above all the others. Hey, my home hall has Olhausen Champion Pros. I wish they were as good as Gold Crowns but simply are not. I cannot consider my home pool room a top level hall for that reason. It's 5 minute from my house but I do on occasion get in the car and travel 40 miles to practice alone on a GC.

You're about half an hour's drive from Comet Billiards in Parsippany. Will you draw some of the same crowd?

I'm not in NJ myself, but I've been compiling a list of snooker tables in the U.S. and I found one 6 x 12 at Comet Billiards in Parsippany and one 6 x 12 at Atlantic City Billiard Club in Egg Harbor Township.

Another good way to find out about pool halls closing is basic word of mouth from players. Most the time the players know what is going on with pool halls in the area well before other owners do. This makes it easier to approach someone about buying their tables.

The players here seem to prefer Diamond tables and Valley barbox tables.

Good luck with your venture!

YEA if you make the players happy then it goes really well. GO with the Diamond its the best I thank. snooker tables are good to have if you have room.

A mix of GC's and Diamonds will help make any room a winner. Word will quickly get around that it is a players room... if you MAKE it a players room! .... and imo only GC's and Diamonds will qualify.
