Need help..ID this cue...?

It's appears to be a pretty old cue...the finish is cracked in the butt..the shafts are pretty nice..the points are spliced but the veneers are an unusual combo...the butt cap appears to be made from the same stuff Joss East used in the 80's...ya know...the stuff that commonly cracked. Hopefully someone know who made this cue...my friend would love to know.

That's a pretty authoritative opinion - and very good news for your friend, I would say!
Great old cue. If he's interested in a re-finish - Tommy & the guys would be the way to go.
 
Can you show a macro picture of the inside of the joint and shaft brass insert, another of the butt cap with the bumper off, and a clearer picture of two points side by side? Also, do you know what joint pin it is?

Here are some pics of one of my McD's, which looks close to your friend's cue. The inlays in his cue are obviously not McD quality, but the joint looks very similar. The shaft collar looks like Bill's too.

I agree with the Mali idea, i'm not 100% on that, but thats as close as I can get. I happen to like the looks of the cue a lot.
 
after seeing the rest of the pics on eBay, It is a mid to late eighties Helmstetter. There are many tell tale signs. the short bumper is one of theirs. also the thick joint wall and small pilot is common for these,as is the yellow pvc ferule and that particular abalone diamond.

P.S. I think it is an A/D-4

very well could be but most of the reasons you stated are all very common parts. all SS joints are .500 inside and all pilots are brass inserts are also .500 od. the diamonds are bought anywhere nothing special about them...

all these characteristics are all common to thousands of cues out there

I have had many of the Helmstetter and Adam cues. the pilots are not standard. many of my shafts will not fit my other cues. It is a Helmstetter. It has also been poorly refinished I would say, from the sand scratchs in the butt. Thus no signature.
