Hey all I am working on something very interesting per the request of a couple of older players. I need to know who owns Jansco's Show Bar now, from what I can gather it is still there although not open for business. I also would like the contact info if possible and if you would like to email me or call me with that info my number is 480-612-7732 or email to cantrillmark@yahoo.com

Finally I need to know names of anyone who is still around from those days.
know of the following.

Grady Mathews
Nick Varner
Buddy Hall
Ronnie Allen
Mike Sigel was at the last one they did.
I know there are still a few of them around so please let me know. Thanks

Mark,

folks who were there

Contact onepocket.org they set up a sale of jansco posters last year.
also allan hopkins was there. And don't forget industry people a good source would be. Dyer of the houston chronicle he probably knows the most about it.

Freddie and I were both there several times. I played in the final Stardust event in 1972.

Mark,
You need to be in touch with Danny Diliberto!!!

I was there 5 years and the Stardust 2 years.

Gordon and Nancy Hart were there for many years and the Stardust.

Other Players

"Hippy" Jimmy Ried- too bad they didn't have an Action Award back then
Jean Balukus- Played there when she was just a kid, but already had as
good a stroke as anyone there.

Mark,

I was there for the tournament in 62, and 64. ( I believe) I think the Jansco Family (or Joanne) still owns the property. She would be your best contact. The place has become a "white elephant"... Deserted, with no pool tables, when I stopped there in the late 70's...Times are real bad in that area these days...Hope this helps.

Dick

Sorry but Jeannie never went to or played in Johnston City. Error on the third baseman!

The 1971 champ was a young man from Pittsburgh, Jimmy Marino. Jim is still alive and well and owns a poolroom in a Pittsburgh suburb-South Hills Golden Cue.

Women at JC

Women's tourney at Johnston City? News to me. The Jansco brothers were all about gambling and the real hustlers. They didn't even cater to the Straight Pool champions, let alone the women players.

But what about this?

But what about this?

Could well be. I never went there after 1967 or 68. I was out West by then. Still very doubtful Jean Balukas was there. She was about eleven years old the last year of Johnston City. Like I said, I could be wrong. It wouldn't be the first time. :embarrassed2:

Ask Jean

Jay, you may want to speak with Jean to confirm this, but I was there in '71. I spent most of my time there in the back building where the action was, rarely even going into the Tournament room. One time that I did go to the Tournament room was because a friend told me that I just had to come see this kid play. I entered the room and saw this kid with a short cropped "Beatle" haircut playing on the far table. The stroke was awesome and I made the comment that "That kid's going to be a champion when he grows up!" My friend said, "Wrong, that's not a boy, that's a girl!". I took at look at the person she was playing against and sure enough, there was another woman. I was totally unaware that they were having a Women's Division.

One of players there told me the kid's name was Jean Balukus. They may have been wrong about that, but I doubt it.
