PM me you address and I'll send you out one of the new Outsville tips that are going thru testing if you are willing to post a review..... Just need to know if your preference is for a soft, medium or hard....

Chris
PM sent.

Absolutely over the moon at the prospect of having the chance to review a new pool product from you. I forgot to mention in my PM, but I think I'll go for soft please. :)

But Tramp, what does your company use on the Miracle and Wonder cues? Surely it's proprietary.

Quite correct, AtLarge. We use our own tip called the ForeSkin. It comes in soft, kinda hard, and damned hard. We also offer a break tip called the DiamondCutter. It's so hard you could scratch a windshield with it.
Thanks for asking. :)

Heard that doesn't hold chalk so well and gave a particular forum user more miscues than other brands ...but just tried to find that statement in the thread I made a while back about Z² shafts and couldn't find it there.

So, OK, lets just assume for the moment that the guy who said that was paid to make the post by a rival tip manufacturer, it now looks like a toss-up between the Kam med and the Pred med...

[EDIT: Started preparing this post earlier, then came back to the computer to click send ...but now I've seen others have posted and so I have more to think about...]

I have used kamiu black with a red pad on my z2 for 2,3 years now and love them no mushrooming, and play great ,with great control. You absolutely do not need a gator. I thank in my opinion you should give them a try.

All my players in my school team plays with Kamui - except 1, who plays with a ultraSkin medium.

Hirano M is has a hard feel to it. If you are saying that the default tip that comes with the Z2 ( which is the tiger Everest) is hard, that you don't want to try a hirano.

I would suggest the ultraskin tip though, which is very cheap for the quality. Moori glazes as well, but I have yet to see my friend's ultraskin glaze that bad like the Tiger Everest.

The Predator tips are a little softer ( when you compare Mediums ) than the Kamui, but has a bounce to it that I personally don't like.

Hope it helps~

Chris, that reminds me, I need to actually install the tip you sent me and give it a test run.

After going thru several tips in the past 2 years, I had a DawgDud put on my cue.

They are a milkdud created by Jeff (PoolDawg). I've completely fallen in love with this thing. And for $3, how the heck can you beat the price?

Btw, Jeff's customer service is TOP notch and his tips are killer.

kamui

Going to have to re-tip my Z² shaft soon. I understand that the standard tip (which I have right now) is made by Everest.

While not absolutely terrible, it does tend to glaze over quite quickly, requiring re-scuffing very often to preserve grip and feel. Also I think it's a bit hard. So, I'm in the market for a different tip (something soft).

I've heard too many bad things about Kamui to buy one of those (sorry if you're a Kamui fan). Browsing e-bay I've come across a couple of unknown (to me at least) brands that seem affordable and at least fairly appealing. I wonder if anyone here has used either:

FUJI BY LONGONI ITALY or Hirano High Quality 4 Layered Genuine Pigskin?

Also thinking about a Predator tip (although I've not yet had the chance to try one), so if you've used one of those please tell me about your experiences. Heard good things about Moori too, but never used one of those either.

I'm particularly eager to hear from other Z shaft users on this question, although of course I'll be pleased to hear your thoughts whatever cue you use.

Thanks in advance.

Kamui Is a good tip..................
ultra skin is also a good tip.
There are tons of good tips but it is a personal opinion,
I dont play well with a hard tip, but that doesnt mean that all hard tips are not worth it, best player I know shoots with Lepro.

It is better that you try out different tips for yourself.

Thanks for all the ideas and suggestions guys. :)

So I'm going to start off with an Outsville tip and see how that works out.

Personally I like the idea of trying something new, so for me that's going to be where I go from here, for sure.

I hope this thread is useful though for other users who are thinking about replacing a tip and want to choose from among the tried and tested options out there.

Fuji

I put on about 20-50 tips a month not counting tournaments. Almost all the layered tips are " good tips " there is no magic tip that will make every ball and never miscue. Not a fan of kamui tips, almost everyone that switched to them have switched back to something else. Havnt tried or carried the the hirano. My opinion is for the money, the tiger medium is the best tip made. Black hearts from all reviews I have got seem to play just like the old moori's. I have had not one complaint about the uktraskins. The tiger black onyx are great but seem pretty much like an overpriced black sniper. I have had nothing but rave reviews about the Fuji and have also put one on my cue and I love it. Although the soft plays like a medium and the medium is hard. I also don't care to get into a moori debate, but after gleaning as much info from the web, cue makers, cue repair people, and seeing/installing the ones that I can buy now. It is my OPINION that the moori's now are either all fake or definately not the mooris of Olden days. I expect to never have real moori's again. Also I will point out that even if it's the crappiest tip made, the tip you like and have confidence in is the tip you will play the best with. Just my two cents

Here's my tip on tips... The ones I've used anyway

Renfro's soft to me is the ultimate soft soft without losing the ability to create spin.
He was suppose to send me a medium but idk what happened. The soft though a great tip was just too soft for me but in my opinion it's amazing that a tip that soft generates spin like his does and plays the same way until it's worn out. I think his medium would have been perfect.
The ultra-skin soft plays a bit "hard" for me. But plays good. There is a huge difference between these 2 softs. The ultra-skin soft feels more like a soft kamui in my opinion .
Whatever Dale Perry puts on his cues plays great and looks like a pigskin tip
I've tried many others but these are my favorites

After using a Tiger Sniper on my ld shaft, I've noticed the same thing, the glazing and really having to work it over to get any grip. I also use Predator chalk and noticed it doesn't take well on the Kamui tips. As I do like the Kamui super soft, the chalk issue defeats the purpose of the chalk. While I haven't knowing used an Everest tip, I also haven't heard anything about them.

One thing that puts me off on putting a Kamui on my daily player is the pad thing that it suggested to buy to maintain the tip after installation. Why would I want to spend another $35 on a tip tool just for that tip? I do have a Kamui on my back up shaft and have used it, just not something I want to wear down and replace too soon. Also it seems the replacement or life of a Kamui SS isn't as long as other tips and without the tool for it, seems like it would shorten the life even more.

Once you find and try something, please provide feedback. My ld shaft needs a tip...

I don't care much for the Predator chalk. It seems very messy, and doesn't really adhere to the tip well. I think Blue Diamond performs much better. Also, generally speaking, the tip tool most of us use the most is THE CHALK. It is our chalking habits, and the chalk itself, that determines how the tip wears, keeps it shape, and glazes over.

The Kamui "Gator Grip" tip tool is just a tip tool. I happen to think it is by far the best one out there, and allows you to keep your tip in excellent condition with minimal wear. The $35 you spend on it will be more than recouped if you factor in the extension of the lifespan of the tips you use it on (properly). It really isn't specific to Kamui tips...it is a great tip tool on any tip.

Everest tips are a model manufactured by Tiger. They are not bad. A bit mushy for me...they don't provide a crisp enough hit for my tastes. However, overall they are a decent quality tip that plays ok. Not especially consistent over the lifespan however. They tend, as all tips do, to harden up over their life. I find that the Kamui tips do this less. Especially the way I put them on.

If I had to change tips from Kamui, I honestly don't know what I would try.

I second this. Previously had a black Kamui medium which for me had a tendency to glaze over quickly and that resulted in a few untimely miscues. Seemed to need a lot of grooming. Your milage may vary. Steve
