Need your input on Joss Thor Break Cue

Hi There,

I've been trying to get a break cue for a while and now have my eyes on the new Joss Thor Break cue. A friend of mine mentioned it to me but he doesn't own the cue. He made his recommendation based off his experience with his Joss player cue and claimed Joss made very good cues. I did some research here and it seemed the majority is in favor of Joss. The price of the Thor is within my budget but I do want to hear from you guys on this cue before I pulled the trigger. It'd also be great if you can recommend other break cue that's in the same price range, say $200~$250. :p

PS: I'm not too impressed with the color scheme of the Thor though. :(

im not sure what other cues are in that price range im looking to get on myself still trying to get the wifes permission. That price sure beats the price i paid for my BK2 a few years ago.
 
I'm in the same boat as to getting permission from wife, but again, it's always easier to be forgiven than getting permission

I'm not suggesting anything, just saying...:cool:

I ordered the Joss Thor Ironwood Light on Friday 5/11, and it should be there when I get home today. I'll let you know what I think. I paid $220 from a pool website. Not sure if I can post the specific site here, so PM me if you want to know where I got it. $220 was the cheapest price I saw.

Thanks Jim. Please share your thoughts once you receive your Thor. Which color did you order? I also found a website that's selling it for $220 with FS. :D

Yes I got Free Shipping also.

I will give initial thoughts tomorrow as I'll try it out at home tonight.

As far as the color, I got the Ironwood (not the Purple Heart). If I understood the description, the Ironwood has some minor purple heart accents. Excited to see it!

I have had the purple heart Thor Hammer (18-19oz.) for a little over a
month. As far as I'm concerned, you can do no better. It has become the
official breaking cue in my one league. Everybody comes and grabs the
Hammer. I have not gotten one negative remark about it. It's universally
loved by everyone who tries it. :grin:
 
Is this a dedicated break cue and not a J/B cue? What is the tip that is standard? Is It BCA legal? What weights are the buyers actually getting??
 
I have my buddies at my house right now. He loves it for a breaking cue and says it makes a nice player as well. From what I can see, it is a well made cue for the money. Sorry, I can't tell you more than that.

It is a dedicated Break Cue. It is a Joss layered tip, you would have to contact them for any more information regarding that. I'm sure it is BCA legal though. I have the light version which is rated between 18-19oz. I will weigh it on a shipping scale tomorrow to let you know the actual weight.
 
The Thor Hammer Ironwood Light was waiting for me when I got home. I shot 30 racks of 8-ball. I was consistently getting good spread on the balls.

Still figuring out the best location to break from, but initial impression is I like it! In the final 10 racks or so, I made at least one ball, and 3 balls twice, so it's doing the job!

I was previously using a heavier break cue (20oz). I would guess this one is close to 18 as it feels much lighter. Very solid hit.

I just need to get more used to it.

We have a team playoff match Saturday, so it will see some "live" action.

How do you like the Ironwood color? Is it close to what you see on the website. I didn't like the color when I saw the picture online and wished it would be a lighter color.

I like the color. I'm at work now so can't do a "real" to "on screen" comparison, but my guess is the real ironwood color is more consistent with the lighter of the tones shown on the pictures on the website. From the website pics it almost looks like the ironwood cues shown have a different tone between the butt and shaft sections. I didn't notice that on mine, but I will check. (I was excited to hit it!)
