Negative reps

So I have been on this site almost from the beginning. Yesterday I posted a response to a poster on the Ask A Mechanic (http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=165405) I made an additional post and the original poster took offense to my post. He gave me a negative rep. Now my rep shows red. As if I am a bad guy. I don't understand the rep process. Does one negative rep outweigh all the positive posts I made in the past?

I'm not reading the thread. I green repped ya and now you're all green. It seems like people are repping the wrong people in the wrong way in other threads--- so why not here as well.

Yup....I'm green again....thank you very much. That didn't "feel" good at all.

So.... how the hell do you rep someone?

i got one also recently as when i gave my opinion. it seems you might get one when someone doesnt like what you say. so who cares if that is the way you can get them they are meaningless.

Actually, I am growing thicker skin. You are right about that. I just didn't like being all red. The only time I saw someone all red was when they ripped someone off on the "Wanted/For Sale" section. I didn't want to be in with those guys. But now I'm back to green. So it is cool.

So does ONE red rep turn the person red until someone else gives them good rep?

It's based on the person giving the rep. If someone is a HIGH ranking rep member (i.e. KoolKat... I'll use him as an example). That guy prob has 150 million rep points. When he reps someone good/bad.... it's the touch of God or the touch of DEATH.

If someone way down the rep list green/red reps someone, it doesn't pull you hard in either direction. So, the fact you were red-rep-filled from one guy--- he must've been a high ranking rep guy.

They should do away with the rep system - it's not very accurate as far as who is a good guy and a bad guy. Your situation is a good example of that.

Hey- thanks to those of you that are rep-ing me. I appreciate it. Like I said, the only time I saw red reps were the guys in "Wanted/For Sale" that were not honest. I didn't think it was fair to lump me in with those guys. The guy said I was a smartass...sometimes I am...and now that people have explained to me how the rep system works I have grown thicker skin.

I'm totally offended by your over the top use of profanity, red coming your way baby so hold on tight, it's gonna hurt! :rotflmao::rotflmao1:

j/k

I've never given red rep, I suppose I just don't get easily bent by what strangers say on the internet. It's nice from a one on one thing when someone reps you saying you made them laugh or provided useful info or whatever but beyond that it doesn't mean much. As you said, yesterday you were in the red and now, based just on Spider hitting you with greenies, you now have a "reputation beyond repute", the same rating as Spider and the highest rating there is.

In any event, to answer your question, if you want to rep someone for a post just go to the lower left portion of the post under the person's name, and click on the square with the blue line across the bottom. From there you can give positive or negative rep and leave a remark.

I don't know the details for sure but my understanding is that the positive and negative rep points a person gives are not the same, positive is worth more. That is, if my green rep is worth say 100,000 points, my negative rep is worth something significantly under this amount.

BTW, the square with the red line is not for negative rep. This is to report a post/thread to the mods. I've never done this either.

Hope this helps.

I know that I am probably opening a can of worms but a red one would be nice with the green because it is the Christmas season. Plus a red every now and then would help as a tracker. Please don't bomb me with red. :banghead: :nono:

Don't know what they are worth but I don't give out any reds unless it is a spam post, or thread.

It is a shame that not all opinions are welcomed when someone asks for them. If all they want is positives what is the sense of asking.

It is like your wife or girlfriend asking "Does this make me look fat?" You can't really win in that situation by honestly answering that the clothes don't make her look fat. It is her fat a$$ that makes her look fat.

LOL!!! I share your exact feelings. That is what I was kind of trying to point out to the gentleman....but the rest is history.....

BTW- you got a greenie from me, now that I know how to do them!

Bob, tried to PM you on another note, but your mailbox is fulll :(

I posted to your User Site instead, but if you can PM me back that would be great.

Thanks!

I went to the thread where you got red bombed. Seems you did get up on the wrong side of the bed! But you diplomatically apologized just a couple hours later.

OK John....you are in danger of sounding like a nit...you asked a question and 5 people, including the best mechanic in the country, said you have tons of room. 16x19 is perfect. Do the math.

I've only given the kiss of red death once, to the person here that's got more red than a fire truck, CW. I could see you getting red for that, but it was borderline. Everyone has a different setting on their trigger finger I s'pose. Most though in my experience, rarely if ever, send red.

Anyway, we all have rep points, you can see yours in your User CP (Control Panel, upper-ish left on your screen). You can see the rankings, ranked by # of rep points, by clicking "members list" and then the "Reputation" header.

When we green rep someone, they get @ 1% of our total points. When we red rep someone, they get half that, = .5%. The green box bar under our username has been rendered near useless, unless you have been red bombed and have negative points. Being red boxed does suck and should be avoided if you ever want to be taken seriously here.

Someone in this thread mentioned you rep someone by clicking on the little blue-lined square in the lower left of a post. However if you have enabled a different "Quick Style" = the style you view this V Bulletin forum software, that blue lined box will instead be in the upper right of a post (I use the "Az Billiards 3v B Style", and you can choose this in the most lower left box on your screen. It's more colorful and enhanced IMO than the "Tech Two" style). Anyway, the orange lined box in a post is used to report a post to the moderators. I've done that on occassion, when someone has been completely out of line and I think a mod needs to step in before there's bloodshed.

That's enough rep class for du jour. ;) Good luck posting and enjoy!
