New butt from Mezz…

I wish they did a better job explaining the weight range of the cue and how the weight bolts change the balance

Yeah I had the exact same thoughts when I saw the announcement. I wonder if it’s going to be similar to a jump/break cue where you can unscrew a portion of the cue to accommodate the second weight bolt.

Interesting. I wonder how well a 3 piece cue will play though. I’m a huge mezz guy so I’ll be interested to see what people think when these come out.

Add an extension mid cue or on the butt and you have a three piece cue. On mine it just changed the balance point a bit. No difference in feel at all.

Often thought about the design of a cue with a threaded tube through the center of the butt of the cue almost to the join.t Then using threaded weights along with a long 3 foot long Allen wrench to thread weights into the cue. You thread one almost up to the joint for more forward balance and then have one near the rear of the cue to balance out the weight of the cue for feel of the hit. Too old now to start on such a project, but a design like that seamed plausible to bring a cue to market and make it work for bunch of different players in one design and having a weight distribution system each player could hone in on to fit his or her stroke preference .
I use golf club lead tape on some of my beater cues up near the joint of the cue to give a more forward hit, which I like. Really changes the way they hit when doing that. I have one of the original sneaky pete's from McDermott from the late 70's refitted with a Peachour shaft. Never did like the hit of that cue after having the shaft made , until I added some lead tape up near the joint. There was no weight bolt on those cues , but the tape trick did help. Not saying it very attractive, but now it gets the job done.

Clearly this is targeting all the players that think their game will improve instantly if they just get the right cue. "If only I find the exact weight balance on the end and middle of the cue. Wait, I'll get the SWS shaft to go with it, so I can fiddle with the weight in she shaft too. I'm gonna be SVB 2.0 for sure now!"

Your post reminded me of when I bought my first pair of Decot eyeglasses for shooting. I opted for a pair with a height adjustable nose bridge. Thinking that it might be good to adjust them for pool. Well I drove myself crazy by worrying if I had them adjusted correctly. After two months I contacted Decot and they allowed me to exchange them for a fixed bridge frame. 17 years later I still use the fixed bridge pair.

Sometimes it is better not to have too many options!

In cuesports, it’s almost always better to not have too many options, in almost every situation. Playing snooker, one of the scariest things is leaving someone with no other option than a difficult long pot. They have no choice but to knuckle down and pot it.

I was playing a good friend one day. I left him hard up on the baulk cushion, snookered on all reds except one that was inline with the pink spot, also hard on the side rail. He couldn’t play safe off it. He potted it, took a pink and then 14 blacks and a clearance; 146.

I bought a Mezz Ignite, used it for a year, one day randomly put my HP2 back on, made a 99 and 140 playing straight pool. Spent the next 3 months switching shafts, totally head f^&*ed.

Played with Kamui clears for 6 years, tried a Zan Boost, ended up retipping my cue 6 times in about 2 months because I couldn’t decide what to use.

And on and on.

When I played snooker, I had one cue for 8 years until the ferrule broke, then another for 5 years. They were both single pieces of ash with Ebony spliced butts and I only ever used elk master tips, sometimes a blue diamond.

I love Mezz, but:

Mezz: Mind f%^&ing pool players since 1980.

They can play for a snooker ! instead of a pot.
Not always. There are rare situations where there really is no other option but to pot a ball; no route back to baulk, the pack has been split open, can’t drop the cueball on the top rail without leaving a ball on. It’s stunning how often top players, when faced with no other choice, make shots they would never normally take on.

Anyway, my point is; often not having a choice makes everything easier, you only have to focus on the stuff that’s important.

Aimed dead-at the overly anal cue tweakers. Personally i see no real use for it but someone who loses sleep over their cue's bp will probably buy one.

Form follows function, and beauty is certainly in the eye of the beholder.

Having said that, that cue has no soul!

I do not know where the balance point is on any of the cues I own. I seriously don't think slightly tweaking one would make one single bit of difference in the way I played.
