There's recently been a couple Mexican fellows coming in to play lately. They play an interesting game. I joined them last week for a game. The way it works is this. The first nine points are straight rail or any method you choose to make it (doesn't have to be a clean shot) on every tenth shot you have to make a clean three cushion shot. It was a very fun game. We played partners and the score was almost even by the end of 100 points.

If you are having a tough time making your three cushion shot, your opponent can get a chance to catch up with a few straight rail shots. Also, prevents someone from nursing the balls. Give it a try sometime, it's fun and interesting.

Thanks Jamie. Some of our club members are strictly straight rail. This game may encourage them to play 3C.

It's called, "Sensillas" (pronounced: sen-SEE-as) and it is exactly as you pointed out: First 9 shots are freegame and the 10th shot you must play a 3 cushion shot.

I'd like to see Caudron or Ceulemans try this game. For me the straight rail part would be a scramble but for them it would likely be preparation for a ticky or big natural.

There are many games that combine small-ball and 3 cushion. A favorite of mine (without a name and many variations):

Ball to ball carom (straightrail) = no point but player continues to shoot
One cushion = one point
Two cushions = two points
Three cushions = three points

(Variation: four cushions = four points, five = five, etc.)

Players use ball to ball caroms to set up points. The game reveals the personality of players. Do they nurse the balls and score one and two cushion points or nurse the balls and go for 3, 5, 5, 6, or 7 cushion shots?

There are also “progressive” games, where each player has to make, in order, a ball to ball carom, then a one cushion, then a two, then a three, etc.
