May want to think about starting a thread about decent poolhalls(and neighborhoods) in Houston? Houston's a pretty big place. There's got to be other AZ'er out there that are from Houston, who could steer you right. There are some really bad depressed sections in Houston, that you may want to steer clear of, but there's got to be some decent middle and upper middle class joints that you could hang in and find like minded people.
There was a large overflow of financially disinfranchised folks who ended up in Houston, from your home state after Kathrina. With them came a large predator group and gang group. Watch you back and trust your intuition. Don't want to hang anywhere where you look like the 4th meal.

There are a TON of pool halls in Houston. My favorite being Legends in League City. Bogies is nice too. But hit 45 south until you hit the league city exit and it's right next to a cracker barrel. It looks kinda like a barn. They just replaced the 3 gold crowns in the middle room with Diamond tables.
