Cool videos. I never knew about the Coriolis aiming method. I always aimed by feel.
I'm still cracking up, on the NV.B41 video. The holy crap shot....lol

I'm getting audio drop offs in the videos. Any one else have this problem?

Or did my computer catch the holy crap-itis virus.....

Yes, I'm having this problem too. In this video, for example, the audio drops after 21 seconds: HSVB-36.htm

Thanks for letting me know. At least I know, now, that my computer isn't too messed up.

Even without the audio, the videos are real good. It gets the point across.

FYI, Tom Ross and I did a long video session last week. Here's all of our new stuff: ...
The most interesting clip for me was the one where you managed to get the object ball to double kiss back to the cushion. It's very clear when it happens -- it's not too fast for the eye to see.

Doc Dave  ,

respect. Wow I wish we had all of your work when I was 18, young impressionable and had a good instructor, I wouldnt be a champion but a much stronger player. I dont know how may times we would draw a pic of a shot on a napkin talk about it then go dissect it, wishing we had high speed video-this is in 83-90, I have looked at alot of your work and its great, a couple things suprised me, but what took me for ever to learn would now take no time-especialy when you have more drive and time to dedicate. I need to study the deflection/throw stuff-i have been ignoreing it to long. I didnt wantto bite off more than i could remember and like I said its cool to see ashot and know it and the high speed video isnt a suprise,

thanks for your work on this stuff, i know yu have been at it forever. your gonna creat some great players.

best

Great vids Dave,
Loved the jump cuts especially.

I also have audio cut outs on about 1/3 of the clips. That's a shame after all the hard work editing and uploading.:(

That was my only miss "verbalism" that was suitable for a general audience, so I left it in. I'm glad you liked it.

Sorry about this. I wasn't aware of the problem until I read the messages. Everything is fine in my editing software - the audio is there; but when I output the file, the audio whacks out. I've never seen this happen before. I tried recreating one of the files, and the problem persists. Luckily, I have a new version of the software (and a new computer to install it on). I'll try again soon with the new computer and new software. I'll post a message if I get the clips fixed.

Thanks again for letting me know,
Dave

Me too; although, they weren't easy. I wonder how many people know about this effect. I've certainly seen people miss jump cuts (and scratch their heads) when they thought they hit them perfectly.

Luckily, I still have all of my original video and editing files, so I can try to recreate the posted clips. I'm actually trying to reinstall the software on computer right now. I hope that works. If not, I'll try again with my new computer and new software later in the week. Needless to say, today is not a happy day for me. :(

Regards,
Dave

Awesome job as usual, my good Dr. My only question is how come you never shared the Coriolis masse shot aiming method with me in the past?

Very nice set of posts.

Dave

The Audio Problems Are Fixed!!!

The audio problems are fixed. Now you can listen to the important narration and commentary in all of the videos.

Sorry for the trouble. I found the problem (very complicated), so it won't happen again in the future.

Dave

cue elevation

okinawa77 said:
I there a method of determining the cue elevation (angle) for masse shots?
The desired final cue ball direction determines the required contact point on the cloth. This aim point defines the cue elevation within a fairly small range. For a fixed aim point, elevation varies a little with tip offset, but not by much. Stroke speed is what requires the most judgment and intuition/feel. For more info, see my Novemebr '05 article.

Dave
