New rails for a GC3

I plan on having new rails installed on my Gold Crown 3 and want to get the Brunswick Super speed cushions assuming that Brunswick makes good stuff for the GC. However a few opinions from table nechanics are touting me to install Diamond or Olhausen. I don't know why. One mechanic confessed that he can't get Brunswick ergo the reason for suggesting Olhausen. I am skeptical and want some good players experience.
I recently played on a newer Brunswick table and the rails were very lively. I liked them but I don't know if they were Superspeed.
Any thoughts or experience to offer?

I've got a GCIV. I had to replace the rails about 4 years ago. The foot rail crumbled apart when the cloth came off. I was informed by the mechanic [Pat Sheehan out of Portland] that I wasn't the first to experience this. He told me that brunswick farms out superspeeds to some Asian country and since latex is very expensive that dirt is used as a filler. He put k55's on my table and I'm very happy so far. Good response and perfect angles. Another friend who also bought a GCIV wasn't impressed by the superspeeds either. He put carom rubber on his and look out. Its REALLY fast.

I have also heard folks who are in the know say that superspeeds are not worth the extra$ vs. standard k55.

Gonna have to ask wtf there. the profiles of k55 and carom are much different, both ball and glue sides! Don't stand too close to the table on hard shots or you are gonna catch one in dddd (deez nutttzz!).
 
SS's have a short life which is why mechanics on this forum would suggest going with Diamond Black 55's which play as good, last longer and cost less or shell out the $ and get Artemis.

Olhausen is a horrible choice. Brunswick takes K55 and Olhausen is K66.
 
I think I need new rails too. I heard some people have had problems with replacement rails being too low (causes cue ball to jump off the rail) and such. Can anyone confirm if the rails being suggested are "bolt on" for gold crowns or if they need to be raised or have anything else extra done?

YOu need someone who knows assess your situation.

Could just be a matter of fixing a past mistake...could be unfixable!
 
I have the Artemis Intercontinentals on my GC4 and it plays great. I saw these cushions naked along side some Superspeeds at the mechanic's shop and you can tell just by looking at them they are much nicer. They also are supposed to last A LOT longer than the Superspeeds.

Weegee, I would not purchase any currently made Brunswick Super Speed Cushions. I currently have the original rubber on a Brunswick Anniversary and a Gold Crown II the days when any Rubber lasts for 40 to 50 year's are gone.

I am certain that many of the knowledgeable mechanics can offer an alternative that will work very well, and if you want to spend the big bucks I would go with the Artemis Rubber, at least that is what I would do.

I would buy the best, long term you will be glad you did so.

None of the mechanic members of the forum would suggest Olhausen rubber - wrong profile anyway and the SS's don't last. Diamond Black, Artemis or Championship cushions would be the consensus choices of the mechanics here - which you would find out faster if this thread was made in the Mechanics area.
