I think we all know you meant to say "without"....but I thought it was funny!

Joey...I believe he talking about having a chuck on each end of the headstock spindle.

Hey Lee, lets see some pics and specs. You raise some interest here.
i will not have any pictures for the time being just letting everyone know we started on this and will have one for the us open i have everything needed to build this we will start this coming week. the through hole will
be around 1-3/8 with about 8 inches between chucks with 2 bearings
the center will be a solid block we will have a rear pulley simple but it will get the job done as far as price i have know idea at this time . we are using some higher dollars bearings when we are done and the unit is assembled we will machine bore both chucks mounted as a unit for super accuracy hope this helps somewhat

Lee, you have to excuse me for lack of knowledge about the Storm, but is this a Breeze big brother which is based on Align Rite design ? The pic's here

makes me feel that it is similar (A.R).

The new chuck arrangement, would this be possible to expand with a stepper motor so you could control the dual chuck setup from the CNC or would this be indexable and normal "lathe" operated? In case CNC I would be interested (depending on price of course) if you use a good stepper and the height is not greater then 200mm.

I'd like mine with the turning/ cnc indexing option please.
the shaft turning section works with a stepper and is ran thru mach 3
you have complete control over the speed . when tapering shafts you simply unplug your 4th axis and plug it in to the stepper that does the tapering then 2 simple check marks in the program changes to run the stepper for tapering simple easy with our shaaft tapering programs we turn off the Th shaft from turning anytime the cutter is not touching the wood we offer a program that cuts fro 1" dowel to finish size and we are working on a special rewrite of mach with fill in boxes to change sizes

the storm the breeze and the lightning not only will we sell you a machine
but will help make things as easy as we can for the owner with unsurpassed programing support and in house machine work

see all this machines and what they can do at the us open oct 19th thru the 25th plus the worlds best palyers and 30 other top notch vendors

...and your planning on selling this?

I'm not sure if I understand what you are saying here. Is the dual chuck setup the 4th axis with a stepper which could be used for cutting spliced forarms/cues? Or is the dual chuck setup used for tappering shafts (which I would doubt) ?

What I'm looking for is a 4th axis with stepper which could be used with a tail stock. Then if it has a dual chuck setup this is great since it could hold items without the head stock.

I'm in Norway and would not be around the event you mentioned.

EDIT: I quoted the wrong post..

The STorm or the spindle?

i was asking about the Storm.

i would advise against using a stepper for turning the workpiece.they don't go very fast and lose torque too easily.servo would be better or a small DC motor.

Masonh; Good point and I was also concerned that this was the case. I have a turning setup so I'm only interested in a 4th axis for my CNC to do inlays and 3D work.

Well, I guess we just have to wait and see what it is then.
