nice woods

bob's

funny you should mention this site as i was just looking at it last night.

yes he does seem to have some good stuff. i read in a previous thread that his prices are somewhat higher, however he's having a 10% - 20% sale on some of his stuff, whatever that may mean.

i asked him about kiln vs air dried and he said depends on the wood and he would be able to answer for each block if you specified.

never ordered from him, but may in future

Have to keep that one in mind. He does have nice variety of pen blanks, and the price for those aren't too bad.

Nice woods

Prices are on the high side and his wood grading system is somewhat fabricated. Pen blanks could be ok but cue wood you better off with any of the cue makers that sell wood here.

This seller, at least in part, buys some pieces retail and resells them. I know this for a fact due to markings I have seen on a figured piece I recognized.

As mentioned, prices are on the high side. I bought two pieces of tulipwood. They checked up shortly after I had them. That doesn't mean everything the seller sells would be a problem, just my one experience.

I've bought from him before. Prices are high, but he does have some very nice figured pieces. Most of what he offers though are pen blanks and knife scales, which are of little value to cue makers.

thier shipping costs are outragous
i could have drove from cincinnati to madison and back twice for what they charged me.
forget about "combined shipping"
9 pounds was $38 USPS

Doesn't that just burn you up. I always look at the price of s/h on anything I consider buying on e-bay. If it's out of line I don'r even consider bidding as I figure they're either trying to screw e-bay or me. Either way it's not honest so if they are willing to cheat on this Why should I trust them on any other part of the transaction? I'm always buying machine tool accessories on e-bay. I bought a number of tool holders from a discount place and they said they combine shipping. What they did was take off 1.00 for each additional item. Shipping was like 60 or 70.00, I don't remember but I called them and through a Hobo Fit and they said it was a mistake and they returned a partial refund If it was a mistake then why did they take off a 1.00 on each additional item? They usually get by with it so they take a chance, that's why.

when i saw the total shipping price of $38, i did a REVERSE usps order,as if i was shipping to THEM. it was about $12
when i question "dear old geraldine" about it, she said the rest was for packing.
$26 worth of bubble wrap and packing tape and 5 minutes to do it
hmmmmmmmmmmmmm??
needless to say, i've never bought another thing from them and wont
they have some killer woods that i'd love to get a hold of
but , nobody bones me twice

Bob has some pretty nice stuff that he cuts of boards he buys from gilmer and then jacks the price sky high.i have bought wood from him before, once.i got an incredible piece of Koa that was really no higher than it should have been at about $80.but some of his prices are unreal.he wants $50 for $10 pieces of wood sometimes.

if you ever need a certain piece of highly figured wood on the spot and don't mind "paying" for it than he is your man.other than that there are much better suppliers.

as stated his shipping is purely for profit also.
