Anyways, I got mine (Batman) from Chip Klein, because I would always wear different super hero t shirts and one of them had a batman logo on it. He started referring to me as Batman to other players who didn't know me yet because I was always quietly practicing by myself. So for a long time no one really knew my name or anything, just that I liked to play.

A pretty good player came down from Canada some years back.He was
originally called "Canadian Bob". After only a few years of very mediocre
action he became known as "California Bob". Now how come I had to take
The nickname of a Bay Area city and he got the whole state. It has really stuck in my craw since he was only a mediocre shortstop. I hope you're reading this Bob, I still love you.
Dick

"Safely"

Due to my methodical style of play. I have been known to over analyze certain situations on the pool table, but hey whatever works. ;)

My name is Viet Do

So... not really a nickname but I refer myself to someone that wants to play me... I say, "I'm Viet, but you cant beat me Do."

I've had five or more over the years in different parts of the country. One was "the wet head"...in NY back in the 1960's. I use to play a lot of long 14.1 all nighters back then. About every two hours or so I'd go in the bathroom, take a Black Bute and put my head under the water in the sink then comb it. I came out one night and someone said "ut oh lookout...he's doing his Wethead thing. Name stuck for about ten years until I moved on. Johnnyt

good thing you did not dip head in toilet imagine what name you would have rofl J/K :D ;)

Back in the Bar League days the guys on my team called me "The Kid" They even had in embroidered on my team shirt.

All of my team mates were 30 and up at the time. I was too young to be in the bars but I had a really good fake ID.

I gots a new nicknamen now that Eric gave to me but its top secret.

Lately I've been given two names....depending on where I play.

Chess: Because no matter what I'm playing for, I'm extremely defensive...

The Intern: I got this because I've been hanging around the best players in town watching every game I can, soaking it up like a sponge. And when my time comes up to the table, they can tell I'm learning from them. So they've all accepted the fact that I'm there to stay, just not full time yet.

People have called me 'Rain Man' for two different reasons. The first time was in 29 Palms because I used to play pinball a lot when I was sitting between matches and I would talk to them, saying things like 'only on Tuesdays'. The other was when I was in Jacksonville, NC. One of my friends said after one of my breaks that the 'balls were falling like rain' into the pockets, hence the name in that case.

I always thought it was kind of weird that two people on opposite coasts who had no connection to each other would come up with the same name.

Action Daniel
Big Money Daniel (from Angry White)

I like to bet and play, but I can't run out at all. Should be Easy Action Daniel.

The way you get a nickname is simple -

You first have to have a very common first name. Then, do something that gets EVERYBODY'S attention (ie., lose your entire life savings to me). It shouldn't take long after that.

Lose your life savings and you can be:

Stupid Steven
Joe Blow
Chuck The Schmuck
Crazy Eddie
Sick Rick
Insane Wayne
Izzy Come Izzy Go

When I started playing in Loree Jon's room in Greenbrook, NJ back in the late 1980s the houseman "Cheese" said I probably didn't play but so well because I didn't have a nickname.

He was right.

They just happen (when you least expect it)

I have pretty much always been referred to as: Goose

just happens to be very similar to my last name.

Some friends of mine were joking around making up nicks using a city that started with the same letter as the first name...(Boston Billy / St. Louis Sammy...Etc)

For a weekend I was referred to as "Kentucky Ken"....(and I did not even know it until after it happened)

I was playing in an out of town tournament with some friends. I happend to be playing a money round match on one of the main gallery tables...It was one of the last matches of the night to get to the next day's play.

I happened to be doing very well in the match. Some friends of mine were watching when a local (that was also watching) said.... "I know him, but who is that guy?"

Right on cue one of my friends said "You don't know who that is"? (He said to my other friend)..."Tell him who that is". (Without missing a beat, my other friend said) "Man...that is Kentucky Ken".......The local was like ??what??...Another freind chimed in and said..."Yeah...thats Kentucky Ken....he is alright a 9-Ball...but you sure don't want to mess with him at Banks"...

For about the next 1/2hour until they let up and actually broke the news to the guy, I was the legend Kentucky Ken....

That nickname jokingly lasted for a couple weeks....Every once in a while the nick will re-surface when I least expect it....
