I don't know about that. If you have the talent for serious work, you have the talent, point blank.

Case in point.... Tom Hanks. 'Nuff said?

Money Pit..Big...That Bachelor Party Movie he did...

He made the transition so smoothly, noone noticed.

Jamie Fox in Collateral and Ray..

If an actor has the talent for serious roles, I think people accept them very easily, actually. The ones who get typecast just aren't that great at serious roles...

And you are leaving out one of the all time funniest guys on the planet that has also done some real good Drama type roles.......Nanu Nanu....Robin Williams.

Playing Kid Delicious

There's a perfect guy to play Kid Delicious....

Philip Seymour Hoffman.......He's a tremendous actor, comedy and drama, he's one of the best actors of the present day - and like Danny, he's pudgy, and has thinning wispy blondish hair..........For those of you who can't put the name to the face, he's that nerdy, but at the same time sometimes scary guy, that starred in a lot of excellent movies in the last 10 years, ie....Magnolia, Boogie Nights, Capote, Owning Mahoney (he played a great hard-core-sick-gambler in this movie, so he knows how to do the 'dark side' - he could play those scenes where Danny is crying and too depressed to leave his room like nobody else could), and recently he was in Before The Devil Knows You're Dead.

I'm thinking Oliver Platt (Pratt??). If you have ever seen Diggstown, I think the way he does his hustle at the beginning would be the perfect match.

Correct me if I am wrong...but at one time wasn't DB actually fairly thin???

I kind of like Jack Black playing Danny. Danny was a wisecracking, smart ass kind of player. To Danny everything was a big joke and robbing you was just the punch line. Even in tournaments he was laughing and joking between games.

I can see Black in this role, if they can make him look like a player. That will be up to Danny to engineer, and that could be harder than learning to play himself. Rarely do we ever see an actor who can even hold a cue right, let alone stroke it.

what about Rogan, he can play and is funny, isnt fat at all, the oppsite but he is everything for the part but fat. Joe go eat some doughnuts!!!!

That is the only other guy I could think of for this part. He is definitely the better actor out of him and Jack Black. When I think Jack Black I think of Nacho Libre and I don't want to see Danny's movie turned into something even remotely like that.

I believe so... I got this dvd from him with all of this random footage..... here is what he looked like in 94. He was a pretty good shot 15.

Will Smith went from the height of ridiculousness, Fresh Prince of Bel Aire, and ended up doing the Omega Man ripoff, I Am Legend...

Yeah it's funny, I was just thinking about that guy the other night. Remember when he tried to kiss Mark Wahlberg in Boogie nights? Lol. Yeah he certainly has played some versatile roles. Remember the nerdy guy he played in The Big Lebowski, or the crazy guy in Twister?

I stayed up late to watch nightline and did not see a segment on Kid D. The article is on the website. Does anyone have a link to a podcast?

PSH...... I like it.. but he is BIG time right now... after Capote he has stepped up his game a bit..... good choice if can be worked.. though I still lean to JB

Danny told me that about 80% of the movie will be based on fact. The rest will be hollywood. Like Yogi said 50% true 50% made up and 50% other.

1985!! The 80's baby...

Yeah, me too.

Dude I just got done watching your favorite guy Carey in one of his first movies, "Once Bitten", from 1985! Damn the 80's were awesome man, lol.

I don't know why Danny and Bristol don't play themselves..That way you get guys that really can play..You follow their exploits across the country and against the guys they matched up against.

Make the movie real as possible...Jack Black just does'nt cut it..At least get guys to play Danny and Bristol that can shoot pool. If you are going to make a true movie then it really has to be about pool.

It would be like making Bull Durham or Slapshot without the guys that can skate or hit a ball..And you don't have a whole team to back you up. Both Characters have to be able to play pool at a pretty high level

It will be on tonight they just showed it on the opening credits. Thanks for the heads up...
Well that seems logical, but..... He was also supposed to be on ESPN2 this AM. He was named in the cable listing along with Larry "the cable guy". The cable guy was on but no mention of Kid Delicious in the hour long show. Logic doesn't always prevail.

just more hot air!

Jim Carey

To return to an older point... I thought Carey was very believable in The Majectic. Not a comedy. He had a few moments with a monkey and that was about it. Sunshine was almost like Truman when comparing the plot and writing...pure fantasy with a serious twist. Both characters kind of unraveled at the end and that is when the glimpses of comedy appear. Majestic was good and I recommend it just to get to see Mr. Balsam in a great supporting role.

I dont know about him saying no one would play me even with a spot. thats a bit too much. I dont know what he considers a "great" player either. that being said. A movie about Danny would bring alot of attention back to pool. Just think how many wannabe hustlers saw the show and will see the movie and then come to pool room to put down some money. could be good

But more importantly, both characters should also be able to act.... and work with the director....which doesnt happen overnight.

When it comes to a major motion picture, time is money.... its easier to teach an actor how to look like a player than to teach a player how to act.
