No body is watching Buddy Hall???

I just edited this image from the 1982 Clyde Childress tournament and noticed something odd, at least to me. Here is Buddy Hall shooting nine-ball (surely he hasn't mistaken the five-ball for the cue ball, has he?), he's arguably the greatest nine-ball player in history, and not a single one of the spectators seems to be watching him!?

he probably just got down for the pic thats why hes lining up on the 5 just a guees.

Buddy is actually getting ready to play a stop shot on the 5, replacing the 5 ball with the cue ball in that exact position. He's just looking to see what kind of shot he will have on the 6 after that happens. I've watched him do that a trillion times. Deadly accurate position play.

Nobody hit the balls as nicely or as sweet as Buddy Hall.

NOBODY!

Lest you think that was the only time it happened, check this:

Blackjack, thanks for providing the correct historical information on this one!:)

He might just be warming up for a match on that table and everybody is watching a match on the other table

Yep, that's certainly possible. Except for the shot that Blackjack talked about. Doubtful he'd be doing that just warming up. How about this shot of Hopkins with no one watching?

Watch any of the matches on TV and the "shooters" in the booths or front rows are never watching the action. They are too busy talking or stuffing their face.

The same goes for most sporting events. All the people in the front rows hardly ever watching the game. They are always talking or busy doing something else.

Nobody cares, but...

The lack of pics is for my own safety- they are blocked at work. Guess I forgot, given the long weekend. d'oh.

Bill, methinks it's because those in the background don't have much of a view of the table.....we don't get to see the spectators that are actually by the table....everybody in the background only has a view of his backside

Real flashback in the fashion department. I remember back then it seemed like all the strong players would be wearing designer jeans. Could be Jordache or Calvins, but you didn't see them in Levis or Wranglers too much. Couldn't have pictured Buddy in them, that's for sure. Thanks, Bill.

interesting

is hoppy wearing,dare i say,designer jeans?jordache maybe?

Certainly better jeans fashion than we see today. At one tournament, we oldsters had a pool going, counting the number of times one of the players had to hitch up his pants. It really was funny...:D
