No cues on Pawn Stars?

Our small world? While there are certainly more guns in this country than pool cues, most gun owners don't use their guns on a regular basis. Pool is one of the nation's biggest participation sports, -I think the Pawn Stars producers are missing the boat by not showing cues on the show!

Good Eye

In one episode it showed Rick sitting at his desk and a shelf of reference books behind him. One of the books was a Blue Book of Pool Cues.

Every once in a while you will see it on the bookshelf in the background. They told me they use it quite a bit and have had some good cues. I told them I'd be happy to help them with any great cues that come in.

My friend took the $175,000 Author Cue to the shop and was filmed, he was not trying to sell it, it was to publicize the cue and show. It was filmed but so far it has not been shown, I dont think it will be, because it was filmed along time ago. He also took another item in around the same time that was on one of the episodes.

funny side note I know the guy who took the Pez candy dispensers in and got into a beef with them. he is the only person I know in Vegas thats been on the show.

I'm curious to know if your friend brought the cue in on his own to see what they would say about it or if the show is that manipulated that they contacted him to bring it in. I mean I know a lot of things are set up for TV. It wouldn't surprise me if they contacted him. I just find it strange that they get so many "rare" and valuable items walking in the door. People have to realize a pawn shop is not the best place to get full value from collectible stuff, be it cues, rare documents, or whatever.

There is an episode where Rick buys a Mosconi shadow box type display cabinet. The box contained a signed 9 ball, picture of Mosconi, and a cheap looking pool cue and case.I think Rick gave the guy like $400 or $500 for it,seemed a bit overpriced to me.

i am just watching this episode now on netflix...

for anybody interested.. its season 3 episode 42.. Chummobile...

this item comes up at 16:05 out of 21:35...

I knew I'd seen that cue somewhere...................

The cue on Pawn Stars is a Dishaw.

3rd Edition Blue Book of Pool Cues. Beginning section, where pics from selected cuemakers are in color.

Wish the pics were better quality, I had to take a pic of the page in the book and load it into my laptop.

What did I win ?????

Forget Pawnstars, yall need to tune into STORAGE WARS on A&E. lol.

It's an alright show but I don't think it will be replacing pawn stars anytime soon. But back to the topic it's not a cue but someone brought in some mosconi items.

I have done "Reality" shows about 5 or 6 times in my life, every single time its staged. period. And edited to hell and back. PawnStars is no exception. They shoot a scene if the editors dont like it for what ever reason it will never be seen,

Reality TV aint so real, I have been on the History Channel, Discovery and a couple networks from Europe doing car things one I remember was RTL from Germany,. Some are more realistic than others but we did multiple takes of most shots-in ALL cases.

With this cue, its owned by Author Cues from Germany, Its with a friend in Vegas(who is very trust worthy), He thought it would make great content for the show, he had been on it once before, So he took the cue in, they might put it in a episode later on. Who knows. I saw the cue after it was shoot for the TV show and its still in mint condition FWIW.

They ran a article about Rick in the Vegas paper, he will make a ton of $$ they just signed a 80 episode 4 years deal, I remember driving by there 2 years ago and there would be a few people outside, now the line is a mile long. The fat guy and Chum Lee are getting $1000 each to appear at local night clubs. these guys went from a hock shop into Rock-Stars with oil barrons $$$ in 2 years. They might be the only people in Vegas making $$$, LOL Good for them. But dont think that that show isnt staged-it is to a large extent.

Here is how you can tell, when some one gets pissed off and storms out the door, they are still wired for a mic, they had to get wired before they came in, so they are screened right up front, and when they walk out they cant keep the mic, you can see it on the customers(sometimes) if you look carefully. So when someone gets all pissed off they have to go un-wire them or they would lose one hell of alot of mic's-that takes a minute or two and the cooperation of who is wired up. You dont mic people bringing in a $5 hamster cage, why waste the time to mic up a person who is bringing a POS just to be on TV-That aint reality. Nobody would watch the show if people came in with hamster cages. Or bother to film them. It would be too costly to shoot everyone who wants to be on TV with their POS forsale. So they are screened before they walk up to the counter. There are no surprises, Someone there is making the decision of who to film and who not to. Maybe the guys behind the counter dont know whats comming in, but someone in the building does, there was not a prep area outside last time I drove by. So someone in the building knows whats next, which means the guys behind the counter do as well. Did you ever notice how convenient they match the items up with the cast? Its not random. And some of the scenes that get filmed never make the show-i'd bet 35%-50% of them never make it, thats reality TV. Sorry if that ruined your day, Santa aint real either.;) Reality TV is much like 3 card Monte-what you see and what really is can be confusing.

Didn't ruin my day at all, FB. I know these things are all staged. I was just wondering if what I suspected was true: that the producers are the ones that are actually actively scouring the internet etc. to FIND a lot these items that they make appear are simply "walking" in the door. I mean, some guy that owns a real signature of Ben Franklin on an historically significant document knows what it's value is and would almost assuredly contact Christies and not Rick's pawn shop, LOL! OK, maybe some guys would because they want to get on TV, because they almost certainly know that a pawn shop is not going to give them near what the item is worth so if the owner is bringing it in it's not because they really expect to get a worthwhile offer from him.

I also find it hard to believe that Rick, even if he is a history buff, has quite as much knowledge as they make it appear with some of the stuff that seems to just "roll off his tongue".

BTW, I've been waiting for you to make an appearance on the show. Have they ever contacted you? In reference to this show I had posted here before that it would be cool if a cue came in and Rick says "I don't know much about these, but I have a friend in town who knows all about this stuff. Let me get him in here and see what he thinks." And a little later in the show, in walks Fatboy with a 12x24 full of Szams to show Rick first-hand why the one the guy brought in is a fake.:D

I was on a reality TV show once called Engaged and Underage. My buddy/coworker was getting married, and the crew followed us out to a bar one night. After editing, I had a total of about a minute of screen time. The show was not completely staged, but they definitely prompted us to take our conversations in certain directions. They kept telling us things like "ask him questions about deployments", and things like that. It was a fun experience, and pretty neat seeing yourself on MTV.

YOu can bet your last dollar i'll be on that show. One of these days, I'll come up with something big and make it happen. I need to figure it out.

It is real in some ways, when I worked for the mob in the boiler rooms, i wan never in the mob-just worked for them there is a difference. One guy I worked with was on that show, he came in with the Pez Candy dispensers and got into a beef with them, He wasnt acting, he was EXACTLY how he is in real life, i think it was in the 2nd season, "Pezzed-Off" is the name of the episode. That was real, it was edited but not scripted. I knew him for years so I know his way of acting/talking. It was a good part of that episode. Some people just dont come across on camera good, others do.

Just saw the preview with the Pez guy. I assume he is a misplaced NY'r?

Not to steer away from Pawn Stars but, talking along the lines of what Fatboy is saying about everything being pretty much staged, what is the deal with OCC on American Chopper? Is the feud between father and son real or is 99% of that for ratings? I'm talking about the latest stuff I've heard about Jr. having his own shop etc... I haven't seen American Chopper in damn near 3 or 4 years now.

Speaking of American Chopper, and to keep this on the topic of pool...

Found this on a Google image search of "American Chopper"

Yeah, they finally showed a cue and turns out they buy a $3 cue, a $2 case and an autograph worth no more than $10 for $600. Kind of a contrast to most of the other deals they make! When Rick finds out how bad he got screwed there will be no chance of them buying any descent cues!
