Are the casting calls all completed? If so, shouldn't be long before the guys at No-limit nine ball make their choices.

Thank You, Bob

Bob - I want to thank you for forwarding my application and the St. Louie, Louie-OHB Poster to the powers that be for the NoLimit9Ball people. They have contacted me and want a Video w/ audio to further my application. I just don't have the time or inclination to spend right now on this. They say they want to see that I can still Play Pool and something about my personality. The Fact that I just won the Missouri State 9 Ball Championship after winning the first one held in '82 should convince them of my skill level. And The St. Louie, Louie -OHB Poster ought to tell them all they need to know about my personality. I guess I could make the time - IF - I was convinced that this will be a first rate attempt to promote pool and not just another cheap exploitation of the game.
What do you think, Bob?

Yes. Two people I know made it .
Lisa, a local regional WPBA qualifier made it.
Joe, a wheelchair player, claims to have made it as well.

Ronnie Allen and OldHasBeen would not qualify because there skill level is above what they are casting for. They are trying to screen out any A players or above. B players are probably Ok.

I believe today, March 1st, was the day they were going to start notifying people. Any lucky people from the board here get selected?

A young lady from my area recieved her letter inviting her to the show (NYC). If you go back you can read someone talking about her (blonde knockout). Around the poolroom, she is described as a c/c+ player. I have yet to play her so I could not give you first hand knowledge of that.

not to insult anyone that is invited to play on this game show..........but basically from what i'm reading its going to be a show with a bunch of c/b players banging balls around for 20 grand??? this is going to be hilarious.........

Looks Like I Made The Correct Choice.

I had a phone call from a fellow in CA about 3 weeks ago and he wanted me to have a camcorder video made of me playing & "Talking" Pool.
He wanted it to show my personality and pool talent. I told him I might do it IF I got a chance.
After the call I got to thinking - They had the St. Louie, Louie-OHB article which certainly spoke of my personality and they also had an article about me just winning the Missouri 9-Ball Championship.
I am now convinced that this will not be a true or accurate portrayal of our game but just another cheap exploitation to attract viewers with no knowledge of the game.
I am glad that I didn't go to the trouble of making that video.

It's probably not the right thing for you, but I'm not convinced that "attract[ing] viewers with no knowledge of the game" is a bad thing, even if it leaves out the whole truth and protrayal of our game.

The APA, whose handicapping system I've criticized many times, is nevertheless the best attractor of new people to the game, so far. This is good. Now where these new people go from there is something else to consider.

If this show gets some newbies to the halls, great! If we oldies use shenigans to then suck the life out of them and thus they leave the game forever, then, poop!

Perhaps this show will demonstrate, to the average Joe watching ESPN, the difficulty of this game that the pros make look so easy. This might ironically help display and promote the truth about pool. I'm hoping here, but optimisim sticks with me for some reason.

Let's wait until the final results come in, and then hang 'em. :p

Thoughtful post. But I'm not sure I agree with the quote above.

being serious here, because i tend to agree with jeff on this one. what do you think is the biggest attraction for new players to the game? i'd really like to here everyone's opinion on this.

thanks

I know someone who got a second call back last week. She was told that no one had been selected for the shows as of yet but that the field had been narrowed.
Not sure if thats accurate or not.

That isn't accurate, 2 people where I play in the Valley and 1 in Hollywood told me they have been selected to be in some of the first shows but I believe they are still casting for some later shows.
