Sounds like the idiots where I live. We had a guy open a juice bar(healthy), put in 2 tables, no fee, free to play all day, nice nice place, closed at 6, no alchohol.
City said, if you have pool tables in your establishment then, you must also have a liquor license. Forced him to remove them.

Clyde appears to be a small town in western NC, roughly 30 minutes west of Asheville, NC. The Smoky Mountain Shootout 9-ball tournament, held annually in nearby Waynesville is ironically Haywood County's largest fundraiser. Even though Asheville is a very progressive growing city and has become quite a tourist destination due to the beauty of the surrounding mountains, the breweries, and the Biltmore house, there are some extremely conservative communities in the surrounding area, so this doesn't surprise me. I guess it's OK to drive an hour down the road to the Cherokee casinos to legally gamble all you want or to nearby Asheville to drink locally produced beer in one of the community's 60+ craft breweries, but playing a game of pool is forbidden - funny!

Bob Byrne warned us about this, far too common, control freakiness.
I'd say that such small-mindedness from city councils and zoning boards, et al, harms the pool world and pool businesses more than any other thing.
I'd be interested in hearing from any room owners who have fought and won against these types of actions.

No Cloggers. No dirty dancing. No car horn wolf whistles, Stiffer penalties for blasting RAP. Jay walking is now a felony.
Driving or walking and crossing the street while texting is still permitted.
My daughter lives in Asheville and has for the last 12 years so I spend lots of time there.
What Chris said is pretty much spot on for the area. Once you go west of Asheville and get into the small mountain communities your in rural NC.
My daughter now has an almost 2 year old and is about to graduate from Eshelman School of Pharmacy class of 2019. Her and her husband are already looking at properties around the Durham area due to the lack of high quality education for their daughter. The region including Asheville is not educationally up to the level they want so they will be moving.
As for Clyde , the attitude of the city council is about what you'll see all over the area, so I am not surprised by the news. As ridiculous as it seems it's their right to choose what they want. Hell, Asheville only has one pool room left down on Haywood Rd called Fat Cat's just outside the town limits in Arden. All the others closed in the last ten years or so.
