My ferrule is oogly with chalk! What is the best way to get it squeaky clean? Or at least close enough?

Use a Magic Eraser. You can wet a paper towel with rubbing alcohol to clean it, but you have to keep in mind that it may eat away at the glue holding your tip on.

Wow... that's easy! Thanks, I'll give it a try!

Mix any liquid soap with comet or any other similar powder soap until you have a paste. Use a damp paper towel that has been folded up to apply the paste and it will make it look brand new.

An old toothbrush and toothpaste works pretty well also.

Great idea
I never thought of using a tooth brush and toothpaste. My ferrule never gets dirty enough to really bother using anything other than a towel, but if I buy one with a dirty ferrule I'll remember that

I totally tried the soap past stuff with the paper towel and it got it all off in seconds! I loved it so much I kept the left over soap for future use! Sweeeeet! :D

I use a little white toothpaste on a damp rag to clean the ferrule. Then I put a light coat of wax on it which helps keep future buildup down.

Other important thing is to be sure you are chalking properly and putting the chalk on the tip and not on the ferrule. You will still get a little chalk dust on it but the chalk in the cube should not touch the ferrule.

I do zombies, too...

I know a series of voodoo incantations that will invoke EVIL spirits to come and chase away the chalk dust. (And I'm selling it CHEAP!)

ferrule cleaner

A friend of my friend's cousin's cousin who lived in New Orleans used the voodoo cleaner and said it worked great. I've been meaning to check it out.

I'm going with everyone else here...I got a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser "Extreme power" and it cleaned the ferrule to almost new. Also, I used it on the shaft and got ALMOST all of the blue out. I then followed that up with Butchers wax (search the forum, good thread about it already exists). My cue is almost the same as it was when it was brand new. Makes me very happy. Should make you happy too.

Make sure to NOT get the magic eraser wet. Especially if you're trying to clean up the ferrule, I'd hate to see you get your tip wet and be pissed. Toothpaste is okay, but I prefer to keep any unnecessary moisture AWAY from my cue... I guess I'm paranoid.
