Noobie Help?

I shot my first game of One Pocket tonight.

I can't bank or kick. I found that out. If I played this all the time, I would get GOOD. I'll try to add at least 3 games of this each session.
I know you don't like "information overload," but if you want to improve your kick and bank game, there are lots of good resources (including many video demos) here:

Good luck with your game,
Dave

Ooooooooh, dr dave...........where's the emoticon for DROOL.
Thank you ! My game thanks you! My CAT thanks you!

:bow-down:

Thursday is pool day. I usually do a minimum of 6 hours. In the last week I shot Thursday, Sunday, Tuesday, Wed and today.....and it's not enough. I can't wait to practice some of this!

You and your cat are very welcome.

I aim to squerve,
Dave

PS: I wish I was able to dedicate 6 hours to a practice session. If you keep putting in that kind of effort, we'll expect great things from you (and your cat) in the future.

and by the way...

your cat looks like he/she has seen a good bit of action. Probably you can take him along on some future road hustlin' trips with no worries. He can hold the cash. :grin-square:

I really do like the look of that feline.

KC

Alas, it is not my personal cat, but it's someone's cat. I love that picture!

I shot from 1:30-9 pm today. Short day, I'm going skiing tomorrow. :D

I do okay for the time I've been playing, but my game really suffers when I get blocked and have to bank or kick. I need this tool in my bag! I'm working hard to get my aim and centerball hit solid so that I can add things to the mix.

I'm under the impression that if my centerball hits are not good, adding other things like English will be a total wash. I think that's true, and I see it hurting other players that try to use it without a solid fundamental base (one player was shooting with the butt of the cue about 18 inches above level:eek:........and was horribly inconsistent! I just wanted to go over and push that thing level. But I'm 'new', and that would not be appropriate).

I'm willing to spot the cat 2 on the wire to 7......but skiergal is gonna have to spot me the break....

ooooooooooooh!

Skiergirl55, I have to laugh. I don't know what it is but you have got all the males on this forum wrapped around your little finger. You are sooooooooooo female. . I'm suuuuuuuuch a cynic. I guess we're eeeeeeeeeeasy prey for your Marilyn Monroe bit. By the way , where are you skiing? I guess I'm just jealous that you are still makin' turns. Make 1 perfect turn for me. :yeah:

Just take things one step at a time, and in no time, you will be on your way. Patience, padowan.....

Question: I have soooooo many questions and the search function on this website is like my ski website.......sorely lacking. I frequent http://www.epicski.comand was instrumental in creating a beginner section where all of this information was gathered for the noob who didn't know all the lingo and had basic questions.

Is there a beginner section where I can find out things like:

acronyms......help! (you all know them, I have to guess)
cue care and repair
how does a tournament work?
what do you look for when buying equipment (cues, tables)
cloth types (what is Simonis?)

...ad nauseum

I have books and I've read a lot of stuff, but you can only get so much from a book. Doing a search on 'Simonis' here gets the name mentioned and I still have no idea what it is compared to anything else. I don't know what I'm playing on most of the time and it would be nice to have a name for the different types of cloth I've encountered instead of calling it 'that rough green felt' or 'smooth and fast and looks like silk'.

I don't want to start a bunch of threads on the same old stuff, but it's not easy to catch up.

Whine off.:help:

Oh, man, I'm hurt. I'm such a Gurl? :killingme:

I'm a black groomer skier since I snapped my leg in half 3 years ago. Go to this thread and check out post #35.
My tibia shot clean through my skin and into my boot liner, then twisted sideways. The shin wound is where the bone went through.

I'm still skiing after that. I'm not that femmy. I've got cojones. ;)
Ski stoke here, post #72.

skier, I meant to mention in this thread... the search in this site used to have a bug that made it not work as it should unless you logged out. After some testing just now I think they quietly fixed it.

Basically if you just type in the search words, it will search for anything with any of those words (though I think it puts results with ALL the words towards the top).

But if you search for a phrase with quote marks around it, you are only shown results with the exact phrase. So if you search torture tournament without the quotes you get about 60 results. But if you type "torture tournament" you only get one, your own post.

You can mix 'n' match too. Like if you wanted cloth advice you might search for the exact phrase "which cloth". But if you just wanted to see if anyone's recommending Mali cloth, you could do "which cloth" mali ...then you get only threads that have the word mali and the exact phrase "which cloth".

If the built in search still isn't cutting it, try your luck with google. You can limit results by putting site:azbilliards.com is your google search.. like you could type:

how repair cue site:azbilliards.com

Good luck.

Thanks, CreeDo. It can be frustrating.

I have to make a new thread post for my first tournament. I did well.

Greetings from Coeur d'Alene

Welcome to the world of billiards and AZ. I am close and have plenty of books and some videos for you to borrow if that will help. I have played lots of pool, snooker, and 3cushion billiards for 48 years. Feel free to send PM if I can be of assistance. Bob H.

There are so many new peps aboard...welcome.

little fyi to help you through...
The AZB family is quick to help with questions so please post away. It is not necessary to create a new thread as you post on this one it will be "pulled" back to the top of the most recent on the list.

Please see the main site for late breaking news, events and cool stuff at: AZBilliards.com (link is at the bottom of the forums pages)

Mike Howerton is owner of the site and Jerry Forsyth is his partner:D
There are several moderators to help keep things running smoothly. Should you have needs, Mr. Wilson is very helpful.

I sign on every few days just to check in...;) Have fun.

It's not a matter of if, but of when and how bad

That's skiing and motorcycle. But you have to remember this:
>Pain is a memory
>bleeding stops
>bones heal
>chics dig scars
>you don't have to walk good to ski good

But let's get back to pool before they bounce us off this forum.

Back on topic. I don't care if chicks dig my scars but they can hate me when I beat them in POOL. :groucho:

I'm going to be skiing all day and shooting pool all night.

Life is Good for this 'Monroe'.
