Norman Hitchcock

You actually typed THREE numbers wrong, but who's counting?
You're my horse Ardeno if you never win a race!

Oh man!
I went back & read the CORRECTED version and I still got numbers wrong!

Let's just say that Mr. Hitchcock is dead and may he R.I.P.

Mumma-mia! Good thing I'm not a bookie! I posted before somewhere here or over at OnePocket.org that I got D-'s in algebra in 12th grade from Mrs Cortese. I wasn't foolin'.

I'm gonna play it safe for the rest of the night and just log off.

You're right. He died in 2006 at the age of 77. I typed in 1986 in what is either the mother of all AZB typos or else it's a clear sign that I'm getting dementia.

Thank you for cathing that. In lieu of me going back and editing my original post, I'll just repost the correct dates in the post following this one.

Very seriously, my wife's been telling me for over a year now that I'm saying or repeating things wrong or backwards. My records show 2006. I really have no idea how I mis-typed 2 numbers wrong.

I'm interested in how far back your records go and are you just keeping birth and death dates or?
The reason I ask is because I did that for several years before I got sick.

I'll see you at DCC Terry. You can share my room with me. Just e-mail me and let me know when you are coming in. jayhelfert@yahoo.com

Hitchcock

Weldon Rogers staked me to play Norman in 1970 at Trueloves on the bar table with a small cue ball. We played 10 ahead for 2 thousand and I won the set in an hour ! Buddy was there as well as Don Watson and Eddie burton, plus all the locals. The rest of the story is in my book !! p.s. not bad for a shortstop huh Jay ! lol

I thought he passed away several years back, but I don't know for sure. Norman actually won the 9-Ball division in the last Stardust tourney in 1973. First time I ever saw Hitchcock was in 1963 and I was a student at OU as well. Tommy Fisher (who became a very famous high rolling gambler in Vegas) and I traveled to the city (OKC) looking for pool games. Tommy was the best player around OU back then.

We got a couple of small games and then got steered to a spot where we were told bigger games went on. That's where we ran into Hitchcock. Man, did he play good! He must have beat Tommy out of $150 playing $10 9-Ball, before Tommy finally pulled up. We ran back down to Norman (funny, same name) after that. Later on I found out that Hitchcock was the best player in all of Oklahoma and would play any road players that came through.

I always wondered if he was any relation to Wild Bill Hitchcock, another pretty straight shooter. :)

Wild Bill Hickok........
I saw a picture of Norman on the One Pocket site, he is in a picture with one of the Janscos He is a foot taller than Jansco, the guy I was told was Norman Hitchcock was a real short skinny guy. heres the link
https://www.onepocket.org/Hitchcock.htm can you tell me if that is Norm or not please and also there is a guy they are saying is Hayden Lingo , he looks like Norm to me , so maybe whoever pointed them out to me was goofed up, or I am goofed up , probably 70/30 for me being the goof. Thanks in advance

I am sure that is Norman Hitchcock.

I asked him to play some 1pkt when we both got knocked out of a 9-ball tourney in OK City's The Pool Room.

He said, Sure, let's go to Trueloves, Went there and played for about 5-6 hrs for a Dollar a game. Broke even, but at that time Norman thought people were coming up from the floor after him. Sort of sharked me at the time.

After talking to Okla City players, I learned that Norman had a problem where that at one time he would hardly leave his house for about 11 yrs.

I can say one thing though, that Norman was a gentleman every time I saw him, and I am glad that I had the opportunity to play with Norman.:)

I’m a 6-footer....I recall Norman being taller.
Pretty sure this is Norman Hitchcock.

At One Hole .org, they think it’s Hayden Lingo in the second row...second from the left....
...seems to be much shorter

That's Hitchcock in the first photo with Paulie Jansco and he's not in the second photo. I never saw Hayden Lingo, but heard a lot about him. Some say he was the creator of One Pocket and the best player ever at that game.
