Their site is being developed now. I understand it should be online very soon.

Hi Mike,
Thanks for posting this and always keeping us up to speed in the pool world.

They mentioned the possibility of 10 Ball events and we all know I'm glad to hear that. But I think the motivating factor here should be the new eyes looking at us.
I truely believe 9 Ball racks cause more arguements and conflict at tournaments than any other topic at our tournaments, professional and regional. I know we should all be at our best behavior at these new events but I also know that it only takes one or two to make us all look bad.

Mr Dawson, please consider 10 Ball, Rack your own, with either spotting the 10 ball made on the break or give the opposing player the option to inspect only the two balls racked directly behind the 10 Ball. Either one of these formats will help all events run smoother with less conflicts among players. The game of 10 Ball may take a little longer but you'll definately save time and agony during the racking version of the show.

A slightly shorter race is possible because players will actually have more innings at the table per match anyways.

10 Ball is in the future anyway, might as well start here!

No listing for a tournament in Chicago!!!!!!! I'm bummed!!

I have a tournament director working on Amateur 9-Ball events in the Chicago area if anyone is interested. I should have info and everything up and running by the end of the year.

I want that chart, Joe. Pretty please...

I echo Joe T's remarks.

Years ago, I never noticed folks fussing over the rack as much as they do today.

At the action table in Valley Forge earlier this year, the list of players was 30-plus. The game of 9-ball was soon thereafter changed to 10-ball, much to the delight of the players themselves.

HILTON......Huh???

I just want to know if PARIS....... is going to be there???

Maybe just what men's pool needs to push it over the top...Attendance wouldn't be the problem......I'd be there!!

What's up, stranger! Glad to see a new, familiar face here.

What does this mean? or what makes those 2 balls key in a 10ball rack?

Thanks.

sounds like a great tour congrats for him to think to get a well known hotel chain to sponsor an event like this. this should help the billiard industry and hopefull get a few more non-billiard related spondors to add to the mix and help this industry grow. I know from personal experience that it is hard to get sponsors out of the billiard industry. i only hope that they get an event in ohio soon. :)

The only possible problem in 10 Ball is the possibility of the 10 Ball going straight into either of the two lower corner pockets due to how they were racked and the chances of this happening greatly increase if one of those two balls is left off the 10. If they're both touching the 10, the 10 will pretty much stay there until it's kicked.

Joe T, We're all better off with no wing balls!

It looks like there are going to be some pretty nice prize funds available for these tournaments. Is Hilton the major (or only) sponsor for these events? Financials are none of my business, but I'm curious to know if US pool has finally found another big non-billiards industry tour sponsor, like the CPBT had not too long ago.

Hi to you guys, too, DoomCue and Eric! :)

I got a chance to speak to this gentleman at the recent U.S. Open, and I was very impressed with his forecast for the tour. The only requirement, the way I heard it, is that all players must be a registered guest at the host Hilton Hotel at the reduced player's lodging rate. Bowling might have the Days Inn as a sponsor, but pool now has the Hilton, thanks to the efforts of folks like Jim Dawson. :D

The flier at the Open said $300,000 in GUARANTEED ADDEDS [funds guaranteed by the host Hilton Hotel]. The tour will have a point system to qualify for the final event: $75,000 added and bonuses! YIPPEE!

Matter of fact, the Atlantic City Hilton Casino is the venue site for the upcoming $130,000 total purse (based on a 16-player field) $50,000 guaranteed/added Skins Billiards Championship, November 19-20, 2004! :p

It is fantastic to see a sponsor like the Hilton coming onto the pool scene. I see great things happening up ahead! As it says on the bottom of the flier, "LET THE FUN BEGIN!"

Bigger Change is Needed to Promote Growth

I agree that this tour is good news for pool, and I am glad to see a man of intelligence mapping this thing out. Still, I don't think this format is really any different from other Pro Tours. If you guys with the power are listening, I would like to make a suggestion. Make all the tournaments ProAm, and offer much cheaper entry fees for the true amateur players. Then structure the brackets so that Amateurs will play the pros in the early brackets. The Pros will benefit by larger purses. The bar and hotels will benefit from the extra business generated by increased participation. Amateurs will benefit by gaining the experience and fun of playing in major tournaments without flushing two or three hundred dollars down the toilet. Think about it my friends, why would anyone out of the top 10 -20 players pay a $200 or $300 dollar entry fee, when they know they cannot place well in the tourney? This is what is killing the growth of our tournaments. Can you imagine how many amateur players like myself would enter these tournaments if you lowered the entry fee to $35 or $40 and gave them a chance (regardless of how slim) to play the big boys for the big cash? Sure, it would be a lottery ticket, but it would be fun, and it would gain a lot of attention. If one of these lower skilled players ever won the cash, it would make a great story that would be super publicity for the game. Just keep the amateurs restricted to APA or BCA (whatever) ranked players so that no hustlers could take advantage of this system. If a player has a real chance of doing well, he should pay full entry, but an APA 5 or 6 should be able to participate at a much reduced rate. It would be good for everyone. The number of participants at this skill level could be limited to 16 players, and I am sure the slots would fill quickly. You could even have qualifier tourneys for these slots. Any comments? We need some new thinking friends. Thanks!

That is some serious money being added to the tournaments and I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if it catches the attention of the top international players as well. Does anyone know more details? Is this open to all players?

Since you brought it up, Sniper, I asked the same question at the Open when I was introduced to the promoter.

According to the horse's mouth, one need not be a member of ANY pool organization to participate, which is great (IMO).

Another factoid listed at the bottom of the flier I received at the Open is the playing equipment will be 9-foot Diamond Pros! :)

On the serious side...

One of the tournaments is going to be 1/2 mile from my house! I was pleasantly surprised to see that! The El Conquistador Resort is located right at the foot of the Catalina Mountains. BEAUTIFUL country.......2 eighteen hole courses, and a 9 holer too. Bet there is going to be some $$$ flying around the golf course, as well.

However...it is going to be in August! August = HEAT.... around these parts. Should be somewhere around 110 during the mid-day. Just a tad warm...
