Not Enough Sponsors YET for FREE Streams

If there are not enough sponsors to have a free stream by now (streaming pool for at least 9 years)then there will never be. It's a lot easier to have a PPV then going out and beating the bushes for sponsors...but PPV is getting real old for most. Johnnyt

should have a posted refund policy

PPV streams need to have a posted refund policy for unwatchable streams. At the very minimum a credit toward future PPVs. What is it called when you pay for something and do not receive it or you open the box and it is broken but no refund or store credit?

Wrestling (the soap-opera kind), MMA, and boxing all have major sponsors. They also have PPVs and charge 3x-5x more than most pool PPVs.

The sectors within the Pool industry simply are not BIG enough to gain sponsorship through streaming!
It's up to all parties to work together in order to create a better package for potential sponsors...

They have a lot bigger fan base than pool and IMO they are greedy. Asking the fan to pay AND having to listen to a shill for the sponsors after every rack is brutal. Johnnyt

When you have free stream, and good match you are guaranteed to have at least 400-600 viewers from all over the world! the quality of the stream will suffer for sure.. It is better to PPV it , but better have good stream!

So people should just provide content for free I guess. Yeah, that's how you stay in business.

Go tell your cable provider to stop charging you because of all those damn commercials.

So are you referring to the 14.1 stream? I didn't think that really mentioned the sponsors that much at all. My only complaint was every once in awhile when they played the OB Cues commercial that the damn thing was at a much louder volume so I had to go mute it or adjust my speakers and then do it again when the commentators came back on.

The whole thing is about getting the most bang for your money. If there is one table set up or even two tables but im not going to be able to see matches that I want to see then why spend the money? not only that you have to be a hardcore fan, you have to enjoy it whether you are playing or just watching. Watching pool for me is very boring because I would rather be playing however its part of my practice routine so of course I watch. I think the the world 9 ball stream kinda ruined ppv because that was amazing and it was free. I buy ppv, about half of them, but if I dont put in into what I really enjoy doing why would anyone else want to.

Even though the Stream from Steinway was not perfect, it was good enough for me to pay $20 on the final day and be happy about it.

Steinway is only 35 minutes from me, but it is $15 JUST IN TOLLS-not to mention the on site admission charge was another 20 or so, the parking outrageous and the stress of driving in Queens takes about a year off your life.

So the alternative, spend 20- sit home in your own easy chair, 10 feet from the refrigerator, a private bathroom, no one bumping into you or yelling in your ear, all your worldly possessions at your fingertips and watch what you would have begged to have 15 years ago. Gimme a break.

I paid for one and it went down half the time. I will only watch free and I will buy an use products mentioned as needed. :)

I like free but realize there is a need to support those streaming as they have costs. That being said, I also like a product which I can use when I want to use it. Instead of watching a stream yesterday, I was out playing all day yesterday and in the evening my wife wanted her honey do's. I will always chose playing to watching.

I bought everyone of the TAR matches which is about $1200 and had no problem doing it. They had mostly match-ups that were worth it to me to see. I have bought a lot of Accu-Stat matches, some CSI and POV. It's not about the money. Most streamers have been doing this long enough to know what they are doing. Most streamers act like when they have a crap PPV stream that it's an Act Of God and you get no refund or credit period. It's like, "Give me your $40-$100 and you might get what you pay for...no promises". Johnnyt

I honestly don't think the ones putting out the ppv, are doing it to screw ppl out of their money if the stream is crap. I do however believe that an assurance be put in place to credit bad streams back to ppl if they're unable to watch what they paid for, at no fault of their own. This makes for good business, because no one is going to spend another dime towards future ppv streams, after feeling ripped off from the previous one the promoter/operator put out.

As far as advertisements, I hate them as much as anyone, but those same ads might keep the cost of the stream down to the public. At the same time, there shouldn't be many ads to torture those that handled the rest of the bill. I believe if you pay for the stream, then there should only be a low number of ads going up. Now if its free, them be happy you didn't pay a dime, and suffer through it haha.

No offense, but I think you're looking at the wrong side of the equation.

What we need are more pool players and more spectators.

The cold hard facts are that the vast majority of pool players that we already have, are not spectators. TAR would have been a huge success if it could have just garnered a 2000 viewer average. Think about it. 2000 people out of all those pool players out there. It's a tiny fraction.

Pool players just don't seem to want to spend any money to watch pool.

What if the issue is on the viewer's end?

How would the streamer be able to tell if the viewer received the stream or not. I would expect that there would be many who just watched it, and then claimed that they couldn't see it and wanted their money back.

The whole stream situation is a tough one. I just think we need more pool players.

Everything is improved with more people playing pool.

Here's an idea on how to have all streams open to anyone to watch.

If, every time there was a stream, enough of us loyal pool fans would each donate $5 to the streamer, it would cover their expenses and put a little coin in there pocket.

This.

Extend this logic to 'donating' to the free streams.

Free costs something to provide.

You can decide to support the stream early on principle, during, or after if you think you got your money's worth(free).

Plus, then you are 'invested' and may actually have a reason to ***** if the free stream has issues.;)

I have signed up for streams a week in advance where the streamer had a test stream to diagnose any issues I may have before the stream. In my case, the diagnostic informed me that I needed to change my settings in my browser (Chrome). If that didn't work, I had a number, chat or an email address to converse with their support.

I think that during the day of a stream the purchaser needs to have someone they can contact if they are experiencing an issue. If they can't be helped, they should get their money back. There needs to be support during the stream!!!

I assume a streamer can see the IP addresses of those connected to a stream. I am sure some software could be written to monitor what IP is connected and for how long. I have to admit I have not look closely at this technology so I could be way off in left field.

Al,

My involvement in streams has always been on the sponsor side, so I don't know the ins and outs of all of it. However, I have had the opportunity to talk with many who do and have done streams. There is virtually little to no opportunity to depend on being profitable. Any additional costs could be what put them in the red for that event.

Even having said that, my experience is that most all of the streams have had someone available to help during the events. Maybe they get overloaded, I don't know.

I also think that most stream issues are related to bandwidth on the viewer's side. I know that for me personally, before I upgraded my bandwidth, streams were kind of hit and miss. But after the upgrade, the only time I might have an issue is if we have another bandwidth consuming activity going on. Like downloading a movie or music or something.

One other thing that can help a bunch. Always refresh your stream a couple of times an hour. Or maybe 3 or 4. This clears out the buffers and keeps things running much more smoothly.
