Not easy , not routine, nice shot under any conditions, having said that :D if I could not do this I would be mad at myself and that"s all I have to say about that.

As to taking that route, quite frankly, Corey had his head up his arse. While not hard to do, it was the wrong way to go in that instance. He EASILY could have put some right on it and gone two rails to get to the same spot, and wouldn't of had to worry about hitting it so good.

Instead of "Hey, if I think it's tough, then I don't believe anyone else can do it unless I see it."

I agree with Neil here. This shot isn't routine but it isn't exactly that hard either, especially on a diamond. What would of been more impressive than that shot was if he hit it with top spin and used inside english. The shot looks great because you see the bend in the cueball and everyone goes nuts.

I was at the 2010 Derby and I could do all sorts of crazy stroke shots fairly easily that were not possible on another table. I love Diamonds, there awesome :grin-square:
 
Don't know how true this is or not, but I've read multiple times that Corey did not get out this rack.

Great shot though.

come on man, Life is short so don't take these things so personally. I really couldn't care less if you or anyone else can pull the shot off. To me, it's more of a "game situation" thing anyway. I try (and sometimes pull off) things that I would more than likely NEVER try in a match. Much less on the TV table against Mika, at the US Open no less...where ANY mistake could cost you the set. Cory not only see's it, he attempts it, pulls it off AND get's shape. It's the sum of the parts IMO. And no, I do not think it's easy on any table. EasiER on a nice new Diamond maybe, but certainly not "easy"

I can't speak for anyone else, but I love those "what would you do here" discussions. I'm still learning the game, and anticipate learning for a long, long time - but given that I'm still fairly new (about a year into serious playing); everything is new and shiny and awe-inspiring to me.

As for Corey's shot, I said on my blog that it's unlikely I'll be able to do that shot. I said "ever" but that's a very long time, and considering how much I love to draw the ball, I'd rather say "in 5 years I hope to do that". lol

I think people want to see videos of other people doing amazing shots for 2 reasons: 1) It proves they aren't talking out of their ass, and the internet being what it is, it's not always easy to tell the difference. 2) It gives people like me hope that one day things like that are possible and that strokes like the pros are possible for anyone, given time and practice; as opposed to some natural-born ability that some of us just don't have.

I love seeing videos of people shooting amazing (or what I would define at this time as such) shots... it keeps me pumped up and somehow lessens the gap between me and SVB/CD/MI, etc. *shrug*

Yeah, I dont know why they dont show him making the 9, but they show him making the 8 and the CB rolling down towards the 9. I am inclined to believe, with a pretty solid hold, that he did sink the 9.
 
Well im glad he shot it like that. I enjoyed watching it. I believe he shot it like that because he was feelin it you know when you feel it in your gut you can do it and it was exciting to see. Now everybody continue to explain how easy the shot is lol! People can't just enjoy something they always want to critique it.

Corey did NOT get out here. I've seen the whole match, and he hung the 9. :p

I'm still laughing at those few who consider this shot easy. Sure, even I can pocket the ball and get the same position, but to do it without cheating with some English or hitting it softer (allows the CB to curve earlier, giving the sme shape without the hard curve coming out of the cushion) is very difficult. I'd be surprised that SVB or Mika could even reproduce the shot in the same dramatic fashion as Corey hit it, and even if they could, they certainly wouldn't call it easy.

You're letting the bending impress you way too much. I know that you are one person around here that knows pool so it surprises me that you are that impressed and being so defensive on this. On a table with fresh cloth and clean balls, and the stroke of a professional, that shot really isn't all that impressive. It sure looked neat though. Give me those table conditions and I'm pretty confident I could do it.

It's one thing to bend the cue ball before a rail, or after it, that's easy. But to bend it before AND after in such dramatic fashion ...at that distance and speed ...on live TV ...during a US Open ...on his first try, and I doubt there is a single player on earth besides Corey who could have hit it that pure under those circumstances.

The fact that it's made during a US Open TV match alone means that 99% of people would choke even if they possessed the talent to make the shot with reasonable consistency. It's like a free throw in basketball. Any average joe can make one. Try doing it during an NBA game with 10 million people watching. The hoop will look 10 miles away.

As for being defensive....defensive about what? About not being able to make one of the most recognized shots ever hit during a live TV match? How could I possibly feel threatened by that? :eek:

What does bother me however is the fact that people are so quick to disrespect this beautiful game by assuming they can do what the pros do with relative ease.

Hell, even if you could make the shot the same way Corey hit it, (which I doubt), calling it 'easy' is just ridiculous. Ask yourself how many years one person would have practice this game on a casual basis to be able to stroke the ball that pure. 3, 5, 10? Anything that takes that long cannot be considered easy. Saying otherwise is just ...

Never mind. You guys win. The shot is easy. I see it weekly at pool league. My apologies. lol

(Im not angry...Im just dumbfounded by you people :p)
