Nude Avatars/BS

I love looking at cute girls and you can turn the avatars off if you want, but I still think there is a common sense limit to what avatars should be on here. Anything that looks too "porn" should probably not be on here. There are 50 billion porn sites on the internet, this shouldn't be one of them.

It was almost embarrassing to see what people were typing in when TAR did their DCC broadcast if any female was on screen. A couple of jokes is fine, but endless sex jokes from a bunch of clowns makes any female uncomfortable after awhile and it always drives them away.

Nope,
but I'll call Rob Johnson at the BCA and tell em we here at the AZ website think the Jr. Nationals should go back into the smokey, alcohol bad language atmosphere just 'because' its everywhere else in our society so we/us billiard enthusiasts will keep our status quo with society and only affirm their position on pool as being what its always been and will always be. Yeah lets not in any SMALL way try and help out our image to the American public, lets just support moreso what they already think and envision us as.

I have raised two daughters and keeping them away from this type of stuff can only do good, if you think your kids should be exposed to this then GO for it.
Womens image from marketing and advertising only makes them look cheap.

Are you going to refuse to let your daughters learn how to swim because they would be exposed to an evil swimsuit?

Well lets put it this way if the kids have access to the computer then they can get the real stuff so you should be worried about that.I your crusade to protect the stops here your going to loose the war.The internet is a vast libary or porn and explicit pic and If your worried about it then the computer should be off limits with out supervision. Most of the avatars are moderate compared as to whats out there and the television isn't any better.

My new Avaitor

She can fondle my guitar anytime...

suggestion

If that guy plays pool, and joins the forum, he should be upgraded to an "extended club" membership status.

Edit: Was that really bull shit in the earlier photo? As in the "BS" in the thread title?
If so, just got it, and it was clever.

Man, That Alot Of Typing Using One Finger (and guess WHICH finger) :)

Someone once wrote here (I think it was JB) that "there's an ass for every seat" and I subscribe to that thought as well.

I, like many, have been here at AZB for a looooong time and this avatar subject comes up alot. If you go to the Search box above and type in 'Avatar', you will get 1,000 threads.

I like the fact that even though moderated, AZB is self policed in most instances and I'd like to discuss this avatar use from every angle in this thread and maybe finally put it to rest. In the future, when avatar posts are brought up once again, perhaps we could link THIS thread as repy. We could make THIS thread the definitive general consensus on the proper use of avatars and how to turn them Off & On for viewing.

Beauty, ugliness, vulgarity, obscenity, humor, appropriateness, etc. differ to each individual. I have received PM's from offended parties asking me to remove my avatars of:
Michael Jackson's nose falling off
The person smoking a crack pipe
The obese man in his bed
The obese girl wearing American flags
The stickman leapfrog
Hillary Clinton standing at a urinal

When I posted these (and other) avatars, I thought that they were funny or pertinent to the thread/post to which I was replying. Others disagreed.

I understand that some avatars may be too graphic for the workplace, but the person worried about that could simply turn them OFF at work. I understand that some members feel that some avatars are unsuitable for young viewers, but I would guess that 99% of AZB's readers/viewers are adults (or young adults).

Imo, almost all of the children of today have access to and use of a computer and the language & avatars of AZB's members are mild, compared to what is available and easily accessible by today's youth online.

As members here, let's try to sort this avatar issue out. I don't like the idea of reporting individuals to the Moderators and I feel that a truly offensive avatar may be dealt with by all of the offended parties PMing the poster. Surely, there is some agreeable solution to just how far we as adults should be allowed to go.

I'm on the vB3 skin for viewing threads and at the top of each page is a link titled RATE THIS THREAD. Perhaps we could rate a thread for inappropriate avatars or images.

The warning NSFW (Not Suitable For Workplace) in a thread's title is a good idea, but we all know that someone will certainly forget to insert it in their title. One problem (at least for me) is that when I reply to certain posts, I will post an avatar pertinent to that thread and my reply, but it changes your avatar in EVERY post that you have in the Forums.

What's appropriate or funny in one thread, may be highly offensive in another thread with a totally different subject. Someone may have a thread asking for prayers for a loved one or mentioning a loved one's passing. You may have replied to their post with an avatar of a wreath or vase of flowers and the next day, you now have a busty naked girl eating a hotdog as your avatar.

I hope that we can ask and answer all (or most) avatar concerns in this thread and refer to it in the future, instead of having an entirely new thread put up every week or two. What say ye ?

My Stickman Leapfrog avatar is a good case example. It has nothing depicting body parts or the sex of either stick person, yet some will certainly find it offensive and sexually suggestive. Others will not. Noone can dictate or say what's in a reader's 'minds eye'. We probably need to draw the line somewhere, but WHERE ? Each individuals 'line' is unique to that individual.

Is there an answer ? I hope so, or else Mr. Wilson will be left deciding what's appropriate and whether or not to remove the offending avatar (AND, perhaps the the poster as well). Whatever he decides, he will catch hell as usual and become the topic of threads on other sites.... imo

I love to look at beautiful women. So I will post a picture of the W.Virginia Beauty Pageant winner. I hope this doesn't offend you, much.
Purdman :D

Many in WV feel that she's the most beautiful contestant
we've had in many years.
BTW, I used to date her sister and she was a real "looker" too.

This is actually going to turn out to be an interesting thread.

Seems like all the new sexy avaitors started to come just within the last few months.

Maybe it's just a fad right now and will die out and go back to cues and other pool related items and even the interesting ones that are fun to look at.

I don't know where I got my current one, hope I didn't steal it from someone here but I think it's funny at least to me.

I thought of putting up a naked beautiful woman sitting on some steps holding a guitar like a cello, the guitar was the only thing blocking what I guess we shouldn't see.

I thought it would have been funny, then on second thought I better not. But I still got a smile out of it. :D

As far the kids on AZ here, I don't think their seeing anything they don't see on TV or in magazines everyday.

I don't think the current rash of sexy woman avaitors will last forever. But will probably die out at some point.

AZ is a place to have fun, learn things and communicate with some great people. :)

And it certainly provides that !! :D :D :D

New Avaitor.....Had to do it !!!

Does she give guitar lessons?

I agree with Island Drive, no more nekkid sexy women in the avatars... and I mean it.
I'm offended and I think people should be required to wear clothing to cover their private parts and public hair.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but so is ugly.... imo
D.

You cover that tushy up right now, young lady!

In my Stickman Leapfrog avatar, I thought that it was two stickMEN playing leapfrog. Then, I thought it might be two stickWOMEN playing leapfrog.

My wife thought that it was a stickman and a stickwoman, but she didn't know which was which. There's no long hair, no makeup, no body parts, no muscles, no shoes or jewelry, no nuttin.

What do you think ? A better question is what do you SEE ?

Doug

I see 2 gay stickmen and I think you are seriously hurting your chances of getting into heaven. Disgusting!

No, really, my computer is having difficulty handling 3 of those at once.

I would probably have difficulty handling 3 of those at once, so I know how it feels.

avatars - implications

What's the point of having all the naked women Krap on the avatars'?? There are allot of kids out there visiting our site, I thought this was a BILLIARD WEBSITE. We all (kids too) get blitzed enough with todays marketing gurus, personally I feel it should be NOT be part of this fourum. I never see this type of stuff in BD or P&B magazines, why should it be here? If AZ is representing the billiard world via the Net, let the smut and sex find another place for its home.
AZ wake up!!!!

There seems to be widespread concern regarding the negative stereotypes of pool players which include allegations of sexism so why reinforce those stereotypes?

There is also a consensus on the necessity to recruit more people to the game, so why risk making large numbers of women uncomfortable? Bottomline- how many male AZers with families have pin ups in their home pool rooms?
