I am looking for feedback on the OB 1 shafts. I like the look of the wood ferrule. Who has an OB 1 and how's the hit?

Thanks, Scott

I loved it when I tried it at Valley Forge, bought it, got it back and started using it; but I just couldn't play with it. It was too whippy, but hanging on the rack ever since.
From what people tell me about the old Meucci's, if you like them you'll like it.

I will not play with anything else. It does take some time to get used to. It not only is a low deflection shaft , in my opinion it also spins the cue ball more. This also allows for lower deflection since you can move more toward the center of the cue ball. You need to experiment with it a little to see what you can do with it.

I dont have one but a friend of mine does and he loves it. He says it puts more spin on the cue ball also.

Thanks Larry :)

I have one here...loaded up with Saber T ferrule & Sniper. Dark grain shaft looks ultra good with the bright white Saber T. And yes...it moves the ball....with a very quiet "hit".;)

I love mine.

A few months ago, I was over at a fellow's house, looking at a bunch of cues he had for sale. He had an OB-1 shaft around as well. He let me hit with it for a few minutes - I asked if I could borrow it that night to use in a local tournament, he said sure. Shot with it in the tournament - niiiice. :) I wanted to buy that shaft off of him, but that was one of the few things he WASN'T selling! So I ordered one for myself shortly thereafter.

If you're looking to pick one up, let me know via PM and I'll put you in touch with another AZBer who I bought mine from - he can get you a good deal.

I bought an OB-1 shaft from another listmember and have been extremely happy with it. Everyone has talked about the improvements in the spin game AND I never know if its mental or not, but I have also seen an improvement on my long center ball shots. Perhaps little innacuracies aren't as much of a problem with the low-deflection shaft. I personally really like the taper as well.

The ferule is funky and different and I love that. I honestly can't say whether the wood ferule makes any difference at all playability-wise.

Steve,

What joint does it have? I may be interested in trying it out.

Thanks,

Just wondering....Why would you change the ferrule? I thought that was part of the "package" that created the desired hit of this shaft.

3/8x10
If you don't have that, you can come over and try it on my McDermott, Skip Weston, or Andy Gilbert.

Nope, my Joss is 5/16x14 and Mike's cue will have a radial.

I definitely want to try it out though. One of these weekends just let me know.

Thanks

I have one on my Mcdermott and I really like it. The hit seems softer than a Predator shaft. It feels the same as one of the I-2 shafts from Mcdermott. I like the layered Talisman Pro tip on it. The shaft on mine has an overall taper close to a factory Mcdermott but the hit is firmer. Hard to explain. Your best bet is to try one.

I really like the OB-1 shaft for the solid hit and low deflection. It seems you can get more spin with the shaft, so that means you can hit closer to center ball and get even less deflection.

I bought one from a list member here in August and am loving it.

Now, I'm not a big believer in changing equipment with every new idea that comes down the pike (you can either play or you can't), but a lot of players here in this area were using them so I bought one reasonable and the rest is history.

Mine is interchangeable between a McDermott I play with and another 3/8 10 cue I have and it hits great on both.

I get more spin and better control on long shots and that is a fact.

I say give one a try. I was ready to hate mine, but I haven't played without it since in arrived.

I'd like to hear from people who have tried many of the different low deflection shafts. Since they all claim to do the same thing, what are the differences when comparing them against each other?

Some prefer options...I put my own "package" on it...;)

I'm pretty sure he doesn't like it... I think?

I think they're the cats ass. It's the only shaft I've ever tried and IMMEDIATELY noticed a difference... First shot. Very solid, soft hit with MONSTER action minus the deflection generally associated with shafts that boast more spin with less effort. I don't know how much the ferrule contributes to the overall feel but it sure looks cool.
