OK TAR, Time For A 10' Table

Justin and Mark, I think it's time to try out a 10' table for PPV. I don't think this is a fad with the pros. I think most of the top tier pros want to play on 10' tables and it seems like the fans and PPV viewers want to see it. How about giving it a try? I promise I'll buy it and I truly believe a lot of others will too. Johnnyt

Yeah, but what's it cost to buy a table table, have that and a 9'er in inventory, switch 'em out, store one, level, etc, etc?

It's been done, already.

TAR had a 10' Diamond, for a short time. SVB had a match or two on it.

I say no

I watched a lot of 10 ft action this week at the derby and all though it is good pool it is not very exciting to watch. It will be just like the old real tight 9 ft tar table with missed balls and no packages. just sayin.

10-foot Diamond table with pockets the same size as the "Fatboy" pockets/rails made by Glen (Realkingcobra) and cut with the same angles would be the best. That would be the ultimate 8-ball table and I think the fans of pool and TAR would be surprised to see how many interesting situations, shots, and safety battles would arise in 8-ball on a table like that.

It would be a "very" interesting table to see 1-pocket played on and probably the best table for 15 ball rotation as well.

I would have to think given how much Diamond supposedly wants to push the 10-foots they would give a "REALLY" good deal to TAR if they switched to one, like perhaps free? The promotion they would get from one of those being on TAR would be huge and TAR could flash them as a sponsor on the streams.

It is critical to get Glen to make sure the pockets/rails are cut/made right though because the "TAR" rails that replaced the "Fatboy" rails did "not" play the same and spat well hit balls shot hard down the rail out of the pocket whereas the Fatboy rails took well hit shots down the rail hit at any speed.

Like, the one that SVB ran two 6 packs and a 7 pack in 10-ball against Alex? (Fatboy rails)

Or the pockets that Dennis ran out every single time he stepped up to the table in his 8-ball match against SVB? No safeties, no misses, he got out every single time he shot and only EVER lost control on his break in that match. (TAR rails)

The idea that there were no packages on the old tighter rails is an old wives tail that has developed on AZB and that has no basis in reality. The good players ran out a lot of racks on those tighter pockets once they got dialed in on them.

The best 10 foot table I've seen pros play on is the one at Steinway. I thought the Earl/Efren match was quite entertaining. The distance makes the runouts more difficult and the table isn't too fast, but the pockets are so tight to make for a low probability of "packages"

Most of the matches on TAR are with top tier pros. They don't miss much. 2nd tier and lower miss a lot on 10' tight pocket tables. Johnnyt

The only 10' match from TAR was Earl/Shane and it was a gaffed up GoldCrown in Youngstown, Ohio.

I really don't think the 10' thing is a fad that will die out mostly because of economics.

Although this would be cool I doubt it will happen. They already returned the TAR table to standard diamond config. (read: easier than the fat boy rails)... so why change? Now possibly a long race or all around produced by TAR in conjunction with and at an event (like the DCC) using a 10 ftr. might work. Somewhat like the SVB / Alex first race to 100 took place a tournament venue.

The Bigfoot was a good example of a 16 man event being run on 1 table and was spread out ... so a similar event could be held pretty easily over 3-days and possibly geared toward a PPV audience BUT could costs be recovered? or a profit made?

on the TAR podcast with Shane & Dennis they were asked about the 10 footer. Both said they don't like them. Correction: It was the Daz/Shane podcast.

Oh snap, thats right. It was that janky GC with funked up rails.

I think I'm confusing the Diamond 10' table that was in the Accu Stats arena at Sandcastle too. That was definitely a Diamond.

When? ... I thought I owned every TAR DVD or have purchased nearly every PPV...

My mistake. The match I'm thinking of was Earl vs Shane in Ohio, with Mike Gulyassy backing Earl and played on a trapped up Gold Crown.

Ask Shane "How do you like them now?" after he's won 16k in the 10' table Bigfoot. More top pros are starting to like them as they get to play on them more and more. Don't forget none of the top pros now played on 10' tables. No one likes change, not even a pro. Johnnyt

JohnnyT - which of the top pros have you talked to about this -- since you have repeated several times that many of the top pros now like them.

Shane would like a bumper pool table if he won $16K on it.

Indeed, Shane did not start off shooting that well on the 10-foot tables and lost a few matches and tournaments that were on them. I would guess as he starts to see how his higher degree of skill makes him more likely to win on the 10-footers now that he is figuring them out he is becoming more accepting of them. Give him 10 years to dominate on them now and see if he wants to get rid of them then....
