Jeff...I would still say that it is an RCH on the butt...although I agree, it could look like a 6...but I would say that the quality of the build tells me this is definitely an original, non-production line early Helmstetter cue. Personally, I think the cue is truly killer...I do not think you are gonna find recuts like that on a production line Helmstetter cue.

There have been plenty of your cues I have gone 'ga-ga' over, over the years...but this one is a real honey of a cue, and truly unique. Thanks so much for sharing!!!

Hey Larry...looks to be a Helmstetter Carom cue to me...but still pretty cool, non-the-less. I like the butterfly points...different again, for a production cue company. I am really beginning to appreciate the diversity that the Helmstetter line offered.

lisa, it's a pool cue tapered shaft. there were 6 different pool tapered cue designs made for carl conlon. here's a pic of the ferrule, about an inch long and maybe 13mm.

Would love to see a pic of a model 86-13, I had one and it was a nice looking cue but hit like a log. :)
 
Here's a weird series cue that might have ended up being an Adam, but it was one of Dick's cues. It was called a BSP (Balabushka Special Pocket) Model. This old rascal is straight as an arrow and hits really nice!

Bingo, CCS = Carl Conlon Special . Carl ran the michigan "Union" at U. of Michigan. Wich is where Dennis Deickman learned how to play 3 Cushion. From What i understand Carl was a decent billiards player and a friend of RIchard Helmstetter. When Carl Conlon passed on, Dennis Dieckman sold Carls' "pool" related items of his estate and the proceeds went to the U. of M.
From what I understand Richard always sent Carl Conlon prototypes and Carl Conlon sold most of them to the students learning to play pool/billiards at the student union.

This is pretty correct. I bought many cues from Carl while I was at U of M in the early 80's. Carl was a great billiard player and a hell of an all around nice guy.

If he still has it which I assume he does, Allen Hopkins has one of the rarest Helmstetters around. This cue was personally made by Dick Helmstetter for one of his largest Florida dealers back in the late 70's. I traded a custom made flyrod for the cue and later traded it to Allen for a Dishaw that Allen had been playing with. This cue was personally signed and full dated by Mr.H. It was an eight point ebony/maple with leather wrap. If I can find the photos, I'll post them. Never seen another one even close to this one.
 
I just picked up this old 1980's? Helmstetter carom? cue on a trade....

I don't know much about carom cues; this one is 57", weighs 18 oz, 13mm Ivory ferrule, MOP inlays.

We don't have a billiards/3 cushion table in our area ~ any interest let me know ;)
 
Those olf Helmstetters are still pretty respectable billird cues from what I understand.

And like Helmstetters in general are well made.


I believe I saw one for sale a while back that you converted to a pool cue. Was that you?


Anyway, nice find I think. Nice condition.

People do look for these.
