I play at Hard Times in Sacramento, CA & am trying to get my game together for the June Tournaments. I am 67 years old, not a world beater, but can play some & can't stand playing for fun. I will play $50 or $100 a game one pocket (cheaper if I have to) or small sessions. Road players will have to give up weight, but I will play. You can call me @ (530) 620-1037 or e-mail me here or at john.h@starband.net John Henderson

John,
Oh man, you should be careful. There are some guys that occasionally post here that are always woofing at Grady Mathews. Seems like they can only pick on guys over 60. Posting what you did is as dangerous as a little school girl posting on MySpace....Be careful. Somebody is sure to try and sweet talk you into giving up the 4 ball, the breaks and every 3rd game. Plus, you'll have to play on their table in their room with their rules and...well, you get it.

On a serious note, I admire you for your, how do they say it...Chutzpah!
Good hunting and good luck!

Worst thing that can happen is I'll lose a social security check or two. Grady used to give me 8 to 6 thirty years ago when I could play. I have seen some of the BS he has had to fade on the boards and suppose I will get some too, but it will be worth it if it stirs up a little action.

Good Luck on your efforts John. There should be some local players that will take you up on your offer.

Just getting the word out is a chore.. and it looks like you are working on it.

Could you be a little more specific, do we have to come to you or will you travel and how far? Are you looking for fresh meat? I know Sacramento has the best and most players now and is known as the action spot in Northern California. There should be plenty of people there this week as the USPPA starts.

Seems like old times - you know, reading your article in the regional pool newspaper :). Good luck.

I don't travel & only play around the No. CA area, preferably at Hard Times. The tournaments there start on June 15th and I am hoping to get in some playing time before the tournament starts and the players start showing up. There will be action then and I will do my best to be a small part of it, but I don't play good enough or bet high enough to play the champions or high rollers. I might end up being the "Fresh Meat", but I will play if you show up looking for a one pocket game. John

Jonh is the real deal, he aint looking to rob anyone. he plays and will make a fair game, he isnt a fish. good stand-up guy. I wish I could give him a game next time I'm up that way and will if my back is ok, right now its impossible for me to play, i played 30 minutes yesterday and was done because of the pain and the balls were going in nicely.

Good luck, hope you find some action to get tuned-up. I wish I were out there, sounds like fun.

I used to live outside Sacatomatoes in Elk Grove. Was long before I started playing pool, but it always nice to see someone from a town you used to live in. Hope Sac Town isn't going downhill, and that CA is treating you well. Best of luck on your games :)

BRAND NEW Cloth at Hard Times Sacramento

Simonis 860 Blue/Green on all the tournament tables for this weekends First of the Month One Pocket and 9 Ball events.

Ernesto Dominquez is covering the tables as I post this and has told me that he will have a minimum of 14 tables recovered by this Friday.. (there are 33 tables total GC3s)

Slick new tables for the One Pocket and 9 Ball event... surely the better players that can adjust quickly will prevail.

John is a helluva guy and definitely CAN play. $100 is chump change for him, so if you qualify, you can win something.

I'm not qualified and I know it. If I'm in stroke I need 8-7. I might try you some short rack Banks at a 100 per if I can make it up there.

Good to hear from you Jack. You always said you would end up in Montana & you did. I had a great time playing in a tournament in Missoula, Montana several years ago and was amazed at the players that showed up and filled up a 64 player field. Lots of guys from Canada, the crew from Seattle, a few of us from CA and lots of locals. If I remember right, the calcutta was almost as big as the purse. An old time pool room with a poker room and bar upstairs, and the owners were Ritchie & Fudsy.

No Action Yet

No action yet. I had to play 9 ball yesterday, a race to 9 for $60, just to get EVEN! T-Rex used to let me bet what I want, but of course he was stealing. I played him a worse game than the game Billy beat him at and Billy used to give me 9/7. I can't stand sitting in the chair for too long and will get out of line more than I should. If I don't get played soon, this months S/S check is going to the race track. Ronnie is on his way up from LA and he will help me pick some winners.

Yes, the players that show up in MT is amazing - tournament in Great Falls had Edwin Montel, Tyler Edey, Max Eberle show up in the middle of the winter along with MT guys, some from Seattle area, Cole Dickson and I think I was the oldest there (100+players). Calcutta was twice the purse (purse was over $6k). Fudsy still plays as does Cue Ball. I have played in a handful of tournaments here - have had a great time every time.

Let me check the Internet flights. I can't stand to see a S/S check wasted on the track. Awww geez, I just got the phone call. They said NO CHANCE. Oh well, the flight would have cost at least three hundred round trip i'm sure. Anyway, with Ronnie coming down he is one of the best barkers in the business and might be able to drum you up some one pocket action, especially if you stake him for a few matches.
